If Montpelier is in your budget then you could look at Fairlawn which is a new school so I think they may have smaller classes at your daughter's age as they were only just starting then? They are run by the same group as the Dolphin primary school. There's also St Barnabas which is where a friend's daughter will be going.

I'm a freelance TV Production Manager so it's trying to pull job school location flat together at the same time with the least amount of stress and not knowing many people in the Bristol area - a friend mentioned Montpelier? Xx

Montpelier is a nice area and has a relaxed feel to it but as you described your budget as 'low' than you might struggle to find anywhere cheap in this area. Most 2 bed properties in the area rent from £900 a month upwards (the odd property will come up for £800 a month).

Montpellier is what may be described as bohemian. It borders some rough areas but is central. Possible dolphin school catchment?

Montpelier is lovely! I'd recommend south Bristol though, totterdown/southville/Victoria park/Knowle way. I disagree with other players about SB secondaries, they are not all awful! Agree the good ones are oversubscribed though.

Southvilleterrace · 12/08/2017 22:47

It's impossible to help without at least a ballpark figure OP. Montpelier and Southville are both pretty expensive IMO, we moved to Southville before it went crazy but now it's pricy. If you can give a range of rough budget it would be easier to say where might suit.

stellarfox · 13/08/2017 18:29

Agree with the above that Montpelier and Southville are expensive. Some parts of Bedminster are cheaper. Have a look around Brislington, Totterdown and Knowle. They are more affordable (maybe not so much Totterdown) but all nice areas, up and coming and still relatively affordable. They are also really close to getting into town.

Batteriesallgone · 13/08/2017 22:22

Totterdown is currently going mental. If you're thinking of renting you might find you can only afford it for 6-12m before the rents go up again

2014newme · 14/08/2017 14:13

What secondary school would be applicable in totterdown?

ASauvingnonADay · 14/08/2017 15:42

St Mary Redcliffe, Oasis Brislington and Ashton Park definitely.

I thought Oasis John Williams but apparently doesn't include Totterdown catchment.

Ashton-under-Lyne park is not a good school, people keep saying it will improve but it never does. Last years gcses triggered an ostend inspection.
St mary redcliffe is only accessible to religious families
