Antenatal breastfeeding workshops

Hi, does anyone know of any antenatal breastfeeding classes or workshops that are currently happening in Glasgow. I live Southside but can travel anywhere in Glasgow.

I popped into Merry Go Round in Pollokshields earlier as workshops used to be held there but they no longer run them (they only do post natal breast feeding support). All other information I can find online seems very out of date... hoping someone can help with this.

Thanks x

Hiya, I'm not sure if quite what you want but you could go to a la leche league meeting- they are held in a lady's house in muirend so not too far for you. It is a group that offers support around all aspects of breastfeeding and pregnant women are encouraged to go too. It's a relaxed group, I'm feeding an 18 month old and go now and again, there's usually a mix of new and older babies and a general breastfeeding topic. Look up la leche league Glasgow if interested. Also, if you did an nct antenatal course, a breastfeeding workshop is part of it. I'd recommend the course, great way to make friends, but it is pricey. And, the Nhs antenatal courses feature a bf session too. Good luck!!

Thanks both for your replies! I will ask my midwife about the one at the Vic. I'll also definitely look up the La Leche league meetings in Muirend. Unfortunately I dithered for too long deciding whether to do NCT and the course was fully booked, but hopefully the breastfeeding bit of the NHS classes will be useful

Also la leche have a great book called 'the womanly art of breastfeeding' - a total bible. Hope everything goes smoothly for you.

I had ds at the Queen Mum's. Most of the staff from there seemed to transfer to the Southern's maternity unit.

It used to run a number of ante-natal breastfeeding workshops. I chose the one for Mum and Daughters (or should that be "Grandmothers to be and Mothers to be"? Wink ) There Was also one with partners and one for just the mums to be

I would hope/expect that the Southern would also run similar workshops - although Rosemary, the doyenne of breastfeeding support, retired before they moved.

I found the workshop really useful. There were a couple of new mums there who talked about their experiences. One in particular was really inspiring for me, as she was still struggling to feed her ds as he wouldn't latch so was expressing to supplement and had discovered that in her specific case feeding through a nipple shield helped. So when I spent weeks struggling with ds, I remembered her Grin I also remembered the comment about putting together the breast pump ("star to the stars") and that you wil curse it and think you'll never get the hang of it - but you will and will soon practically be able to do it in your sleep) . I was also lent a breast pump by the hospital (and then progressed on to using an Avent hand pump).

I went on to breastfeed ds for 13 months (despite ds taking 7 weeks to regain birthweight - he was demonstrating "catch down" growth, having been extra heavy at birth and then adjusting to his "correct" growth curve).

I returned the favour with the antenatal workshops and went along with ds to talk about my experience. I met some of the mums later and they said I too had inspired them when they experienced initial difficulties Smile.
