Hi all

Any feedback on this school please? Ofsted report is excellent but the size worries me a bit. We are considering to move to Teddington but we want to get schooling right. Do you know the leavers' destination ?

Also would you say most Teddington community chooses state or go private at primary level?

Thank you

No idea about the Teddington community - or what that is...but my 2 children had a good experience at Collis and I'd recommend it. It's definitely large but has a big site and I didn't feel that was an issue. Destinations vary by class and year group, but for my son's class all but around 4-6 went to Teddington secondary. Rest to Tiffin, Kingston Grammar, Waldegrave etc.

I think it's very good at creating a cosy space for the children within that size. The playground is zoned so the smallest children don't play with the biggest. The classrooms open onto a hub area for each year. I too was worried about the size but now (I have two children at Collis) it doesn't bother me at all. The staff are caring and responsive to the children (for example, when it was time for cycling proficiency and my child still couldn't cycle, one of the TAs took her out every day for a week to teach her how to ride a bike - she really didn't need to do that, it was incredibly kind).

There are advantages to the size, not least the extra resources you get with that many children. For example, every few years the circus comes to Collis - a proper, professional circus. The children spend the week learning circus skills and then at the weekend it runs as a proper circus, and the ticket sales pay for it. A small school would struggle to resource that.

So yes, it is a very good school. I do have complaints about it, but I think that would be true of every school.

I reckon most people in Teddington send their children to state schools - surely the excellent state schools are the reason house prices are so high here? But a larger number go private for secondary, despite the very good secondaries here.

Teddington is a great place to raise children, if you can afford the house prices Smile

I'm a convert to bigger schools having had my dcs in 3 form nursery to yr6 primaries so a school of 700 children.
More opportunities, more staff, more flexibility to switch classes round, more small groups for those struggling, more clubs, music, art, drama, sport.
The classes won't be any bigger than in a small school.
The teachers have other year teachers to plan, discuss, mull things over with.
They will have more experienced staff leading year groups etc... than a small school with just one teacher per year.

Hey there, my son has been offered a place at collis primary.

It was initially my first choice I’m too worried about the large size. This post has really helped.

Is there any more recent feedback of the school any mums could give? How do they include all children, if a child is having difficulties with certain subjects how do they help the child?

Or any general useful info to know. Does the school teach equality and diversity?

Thank you

X
