Best areas to live in MK 2017

Hi everyone

I hope that some of you will be able to offer me some good advice. My wife and I are looking to move to Milton Keynes soon and I wanted to get some opinions on the best parts to live in. We're looking to start a family so school catchment is important to us. Of course local amenities would be a bonus.

I've looked around on forums for best area to live in but can't find anything post 2014. We recently viewed a few houses, one was in Oxley Park and while the area looked nice I noticed loads of for sale and to let signs around. We decided to have a chat with a local who told us the area used to be nice but now there's lots of housing association being moved into that area and so people are starting to move out. I don't mean for that to sound mean/snobby but she told us that because of that the area has started to go down hill.

Area's that I've been looking at are, Two Mile Ash, Great Holm, Westcroft, The Shenley's, Stony Stratford, Medbourne, Middleton, Willen, Giffard Park, Walnut Tree, Newport Pagnell.

Are we on the right track? Are there others that you would suggest considering?

Thanks for any advice you can offer. :)

There are a number of new developments going up. For example Whitehouse Park and Fairfields.

One good thing about Milton Keynes is that they build school and facilities for an area as part of the development. This reduces stress on local schools for example.

Other food areas include The Shenleys.

Hi another family moving to Milton Keynes we have swapped our council house in Glasgow for a housing association in peartree bridge. We move in January and any info about the area would be a great help

My advice would be not to get too hung up on what people think of as 'good' or 'bad' areas but to visit for yourself and see how you feel about an area.

We used to live in one of the 'better' estates when my kids were babies but since everyone was working full-time (to pay their massive mortgages) there was no community feel for someone at home with small children, and there wasn't really much around to walk to.

Now we live close to the city centre in one of the supposedly less desirable estates and it's a much nicer place to be. Being older there's much more space, houses aren't built right up to the pavement and because there's plenty of off-road parking cars aren't blocking the road everywhere like in the newest estates. It's also really easy to walk to both the city centre and the railway station.

Crime really isn't a massive problem in MK anyway other petty theft / burglary which I think are problems everywhere.

I don't really know Peartree Bridge but I think it should be fine, lovely walks along the canal.

Hi All,
Thanks for all the info in the thread so far.
Myself and my partner are expecting later this year and are considering buying in either Wolverton, Bletchley and Fenny Stratford as it seems like there are plenty of well priced family homes with decent rail links to London.
Does anyone have any experience of living in these areas? We are off to check them out this weekend but any observations would be great.
Thanks!

Hello - reviving an old thread :)

I am looking to move from London which is ridiculously expensive. Through online research and speaking to friends/family Milton Keynes has come up as an option along with Hemel, Aylesbury and Luton (bad rep I know but it's more affordable).

I was hoping to get some advice as to what areas in MK I should be looking at bearing in mind a budget of 325k. Good schools nearby is important as I am looking to raise a family.

Thanks :)

Hello Everyone
My family and I are relocating from overseas , we have 4 young children and are at a bit of a loss of the safer , good transport , close to good primary school locations , would appreciate some real help on areas that would suit us , I will be in the area late August and early September obviously the size of our family means we would be needing 4 bedrooms , agent has given me a location of Bradwell, would like some info on this area , thank you in advance appreciate any guidelines

I went to visit MK last weekend and drove around some of the areas that have outstanding primary schools: Furzton, Shenley, Great Holm, Loughton. Personally I wouldn't move to any of these. We've decided to stay in Herts and put up with the higher housing prices. Do you need to relocate to MK?

Barrie66 · 20/08/2019 06:17

For work purposes not entirely , as i will be located in North Oxfordshire , but would value some inputs on the MK areas , as it is worrying us at the moment , school places are probably the most important.

Hi all,

I am looking to move to Milton Keynes in a few months time. Is there anyone currently living in MK able to advise the best areas to live in MK? Your advice would be much appreciated. Thank you very much!!

We live in a village in Bedfordshire and used to live in MK up until 3 years ago. I always felt that the crime rate was very high hence why I wanted to move further away. However it is currently very worrying and very high with lots of daily incidents happening, from daytime sexual assaults, knife crime, lots of muggings, random red way attacks on innocent people, gang crime and murders. Most of this carried out by kids, teenagers and rival gangs in the estates. I'm sorry to say this but I know have many friends in who live in MK and they are very concerned and are now trying to sell their houses to move out of the area completely. It is not deemed a very safe place to live at all.

I’d like to know if someone has something to talk about Great Holm. I did a view yesterday, but I’m afraid. I just know Emerson Valley here. Many thanks!

AmandaBarros · 12/02/2020 04:22

What did you choose? I was in Great Holm, but I confess that I’m afraid about it.

Hi All,
My family and I are contemplating on a property in Giffard Park( Blakelands). We have 2 teenagers- yr 12 and yr 9. We’ve however read not-so great comments about MK14. Can someone please share their thoughts about this neighbourhood?
Thanks
