Moving to Hastings

I may be moving to Hastings can anyone recommend areas. And primary and secondary schools. Thank you.

If you are moving to hastings is it just hastings you are sticking too? I'm on the st Leonard's side there is a secondary and primary school situated very close together west st Leonard's and st Leonard's academy, west st Leonard's has a good rating and I think st Leonard's academy has been rated recently also good ( you might want to check that one though)

My two go to Claremont, which is fee paying but not hideous - it goes all the way through from nursery to A level. Love it - worth the money, we think. We live in St Leonards and like it. If Hastings, with children, near Alexandra Park would be lovely...

Avoid the Ark Academies, both Primary and Secondary.
We ended up going private for Secondary as the other schools (Hastings Academies Trust) were both over-subscribed.

As for housing, the Old Town is lovely, but very busy with tourists and not great for small DC as few properties have gardens. East Hill or West Will have views and more space and older style properties. Little Ridge is popular but a bit tired now (built in 80's/90's).
Basically people have lived here for over 1000 years, so there's an architectural style to suit everyone!

If you are public transport users, the train and bus stations are right in the town centre. The Ridge has good bus routes, and access to A21.

I am interested in moving to Hastings (a DFL) and would like to know if it deserves it's slightly rough reputation? Is the Blacklands area as good a place to live as estate agents would have you believe? We have 2 young children and would need primary schools.

Hastings has got a poor rep. It needs a lot of regeneration. Not somewhere I would choose to live. Have you visited OP?

Fairlight & Pett village are lovely areas . Guestling and Icklesham are good village primary schools . There are lots of activities for children to attend in Hastings and the parks are good . The seafront has improved a lot in recent years with new businesses coming to the town . I brought up two children here and they both went on to university.

Which secondary schools would you recommend? My DD is quite arty so would like somewhere creative rather than academic if possible. Rye College looks like it would tick the right boxes, but does anyone have any inside info on the school?

re. PRIMARY - I'm moving to Hastings and want a school that is not too sats-focused. Obviously they all have to follow the national plan etc but my local school in London is anti-sats so does not push the kids too hard or make them feel stressed. It manages to still get an outstanding ofsted while doing this! Anyway - its really important to me that schools value childhood as well as sats and homework - our school also isn't very into primary homework which I agree with.

Secondary - it seems from reading some ofsted that changes are underway at the schools that require improvement - are people seeing evidence of positive changes?

We are thinking of moving to Hastings from East Dulwich. What is the area like? Is it rough? I have a daughter with me and ideally would like primary and secondary school recommendations? What private schools are there for Secondary?

We are looking near St Helens Road. How far is the sea? Can someone who lives there please offer me some insight?
