Has anyone moved to Leeds from York?

We're currently living in York (Fulford/ Fishergate area), having moved here from London just over a year ago. I, erm, don't really like it here! Our children are very happy at their schools and nurseries, and I've made some nice friends. But as a city it feels very small, white and a bit boring. I miss child-friendly pubs, interesting bars and restaurants, live music, farmers markets, pop-up shops. I know this probably sounds pretentious. I also really miss a close local community - we live on a busy main road here and don't really have any neighbours (we're in the midst of lots of businesses). We're trying to decide whether my discontent is mainly to do with lack of community and whether we should move elsewhere in York; or whether I just really miss living in a city, in an area with a city village feel, and if we should move to Leeds. We own our house here and our eldest is in school, so moving won't be that simple - so I don't want to make another mistake. Has anyone else moved to Leeds from York, and how did you find them in comparison?

I haven't moved from York to Leeds but know both cities well.

If you're used to London then York is really a big village. Everyone knows everyone. I don't think the restaurants are all that either.

I don't know York well but I have also heard the same stuff about it you have mentioned (very white, a bit boring etc). If you want a more 'city' feel, it would be better in Leeds imo. Suburbs like Roundhay or Chapel Allerton have more going on (farmers markets, more interesting restaurants and pubs and certainly more multi cultural) but still won't probably compare to what you've been used to in London.

I was thinking of Chapel Allerton too. Quite a few bars and restaurants, arts centre with live music, seems like a good community etc. The city centre obviously has a lot more going on too with some really great bars and restaurants. Brudenell Social Club in Hyde Park is one of the best places in the country for live music (smaller bands).

It won't be like London still, but Leeds offers other stuff (mainly being really close to beautiful countryside).
