Wiltshire schools for SEN

Both my children are severely dyslexic and we are looking to move to Wiltshire. Can anyone offer any advice on schools in the area that specialise in dyslexia. Also what the LEA is like regarding SEN support etc.?

I would call the schools and ask each. Wiltshire is large, has quite a poorly funded council and many academies and so LEA won't be applicable.

Where are you moving?

Primary or secondary? Wootton Bassett Academy (secondary) has good SEN provision.

Primary and Secondary!! We are flexible as to where as partner is part home based. it is important to get the right school because of their severe dyslexia.

Take a look at Royal Wootton Bassett then - the secondary SEN provision is definitely good. It's a good school in general - has been rated outstanding for the last few inspections. Not sure about primary.

Appleford school in Shrewton specialises in dyslexia. It is independent but I presume she has an EHCP?

As for LEA support - we are generally happy with what we receive. We did have to fight a bit but, from what I can gather, that's standard practice.

No, my son has Aspergers and is in mainstream (but being part of the SEN community you learn a lot about what's out there). Surely the LEA will fund an independent specialist school if you can prove mainstream can't meet her needs?

We live in Marlborough. Our secondary school is an Academy and is highly academic. Pastoral support is notoriously bad. However if your child has a high potential for academic success they'll work a lot harder to support. Cynical moi?!

The main primary school has a good SEN support, however the current head is a cow.

Most of the nearby village primaries are absolutely brilliant.

Mine went to Marlborough (academy not College!). If your child has any sort of additional needs please don't send them there. Great school if your kid fits squarely in the right shaped box. Absolute shite with anything extra.
