Moving to Sheffield, with 2 children, areas to avoid

Hello! I am moving to Sheffield in about a month, please tell me what area should I avoid (postcodes) in my search for the house. Also where is best to look for a house to rent: sites, Gumtree, zoopla, should I go to any real estate agency, can anyone recomend me a good one?I have so many others questions but one at a time. Thank you all!

Easier to say which areas to look at (rather than which to avoid) if you say what you're looking for.

Do you want vegan cafes or wine bars; are you looking for rural, city centre, housing estate, terraced or 4/5 bed executive?

What ages are the children (thinking schools)?

Sheffield is beautiful but it has challenges like all big cities and it is designed like a pie, rather than in concentric circles so some postcodes have both fantastic areas and awful ones. Therefore, it is better to search areas rather than postcodes.

Local agents are Blundells, Eadon Lockwood & Riddle, Haybrooks, Bloors, Lewis Wadsworth, Reeds Rains, Crapper & Haigh. I think they're all on Rightmove.

Whoa!!! Thanks for all the info. So, i saw S10 and S11 are the best, best houses, best schools and for what i understood safe, thinking about my children. But I can't afford it, i think. I don't have a job, i must fiind it. About the house, the top of the budget is 500-600 £, house, terraced, not central, 2-3 rooms. The kids are 2 and 12, but i will bring them in a few moths, after i put it all together: house, job etc.
Bytheway, i am coming also with my brother, who is a nurse, any chance for him to find jobs there? Thanks.

You might be able to get a terrace for that price in Crookes. The top part has an outstanding secondary and a good primary.

The lower part had a good secondary. It's reasonably safe around there!, although it is student land in places. Sharrowvale/Hunters Bar is another option, but again full of students.

There are loads of big hospitals in Sheffield, and 2 private hospitals for your brother.

So you're looking for a 3 bed terrace, with good links to the main hospitals, and with a good secondary school?

A budget of £600 per month may get you a property in Sharrow, maybe Banner Cross.

I would avoid the main student areas - they can get very noisy (so Ecclesall Road, Broomhill, Broomhall, Crookes, Walkley) and very busy traffic wise.

The main hospitals in Sheffield are The Hallamshire, The Northern General, the Children's, Weston Park (a specialised cancer hospital), plus a number of small private hospitals.

I think the secondary schools in order go Silverdale and Tapton. These are very popular, and it's unlikely you'll get a place as demand is very high.

After that you could go for High Storrs, King Edward VII, King Ecberts and possibly Meadowhead.

Or if you wanted to go a way out you could try Chapeltown or High Green. These have a bit of a village feel to them.

You may be able to pick up a bargain youth, as loads of new student accommodation has been build around the city centre, so there are loads of empty properties atm.

Try Air b&b for places to stay. Read the reviews first though.

Meersbrook is a vegan haven, but I think your budget is quite right tbh. If you do end up there Carfield school is lovely, there's a massive park that has loads of community events and it's near a big virgin gym, which is great for swimming lessons.
DONT use blundells they don't care if the house is falling apart around you. I used them for first six months in Sheffield then Gumtree to find s private rental.

You might want to look at schools for your 12yo first? See which schools you like the look of and if they have places. Then use that to drive your house search.

My daughter is studying at an art school (she plays piano), i saw Parkwood Academy in S6 area is an art school and i think it would be good for her. Opinions about the school and/or the area. Thank you!
