We are moving to Milton Keynes from Scotland and need some help on areas!! I am looking at the new build homes by David Wilson on the Brooklands development..are any of you familiar with this area? Is it nice/good for schools? I have three children aged 10, 8 and 2.

We have sold our home and are about to move into the mother in laws for a few months to allow us to buy without a chain..I know this is a problem in england?!

We live in a really nice area at the moment with the best schoolign in Scotland so this is the main thing coupled with cost of course!! Pease Help! xx

Dear all,
Anyone know Haversham?
Is it a good area?

Jojoanna · 10/01/2017 17:52

It's okay has a school and a pub. You would have to go to wolverton for all your amenities Castlethorpe is lovely which is a little bit further on.

Zizigulu · 10/01/2017 19:04

Thanks Jojoanna,
Why some say avoid Wolverton?

Jojoanna · 10/01/2017 19:09

Wolverton is alright but a bit depressed . Has a big Tesco . Houses are more traditional

Zizigulu · 10/01/2017 19:58

I thought that was about safety issues... 😐

Zizigulu · 10/01/2017 19:59

Being traditional, is not a serious problem

Ascoldasice
Did you manage to find out how to do it?

Bwith3 · 31/12/2017 17:46

Hi all, im jumping in here. We too are moving from scotland to the milton keynes area or anywhere that takes max an hour to get to the Bletchley area.

Does anyone know if there are any rural type areas in milton keynes with good schools?? Or is this just too far fetched.

ExcitementBubble · 02/01/2018 14:55

There are lots of villages around Milton Keynes, many of which are in Buckinghamshire so part of the grammar system so it will depend on your opinion of that as to whether you think that means good schools.

Otherwise or a number of the Milton Keynes estates have old villages at their centre such as as Loughton or Shenley Church End which have decent schools. The good schools are usually oversubscribed though so if your kids are already school age you may find it tricky to get in straight away.

You could get to Bletchley from central London in an hour so that's a pretty wide net you're casting, anywhere from Buckingham, Northampton, Bedford etc is within range. Personally central Bletchley is not that great so I'd steer clear of there if you can.

bunbunny · 02/01/2018 22:10

How rural do you want to be?

Reason I ask - I live in Loughton - so 5 minutes from the station and the Centre - but also I can walk out of my front door into several different parks within minutes or 5-10 minutes drive to other big parks and woods (MK is fairly unique in having a Parks Trust that looks after the local parks, does a very good job of it and has a wide range of excellent parks and outdoor spaces so that nowhere is further than 1/3 mile from a park of some size, and I think has the most parks per head of population or something similar, so it's a very green 'city' compared with many other towns and cities.)

This would give you the advantage of being able to pop to Bletchley on the train or bus easily too - but you might want to be much further out and in a proper rural village.

Have a look at MK Kids - miltonkeyneskids.com/ - it's a great blog that has lots of ideas of local free/cheap things to do with kids in MK and has lots of info on many of the parks.

Do you know which bit of Bletchley you need to get to yet - just wondering if knowing where you need to get to will help to dictate which side you want to aim to live on in case there are nasty traffic junctions to cross or avoid. Unfortunately I don't know that area very well to know if there are any traffic blackspots that might impact on your daily journey.

Hi,
I hope posting in the right category.

We have lived in Reading (town centre flat) for 7 years, and quite enjoy the town centre and vibrant scene.

However, we have our 3 yr old who will be starting school next yr, so need to move to an "awesome" school catchment area. Primary school catchment is the main criteria, followed by proximity to town/vibrant lifestyle/cafes/etc, and value for money (budget 400 -450K).

AFAIK, Reading town centre does not have many good primary schools.
Areas like Lower Earley and Wokingham have caught our fancy but again they are away from Reading town centre.

An alternate option, is Milton Keynes, found some schools in Middleton/Oakgrove area to be nice. Value for money is slightly better. And advantage is you could be anywhere in 5 min in the car.

What I dont know is - am I missing something about MK? It doesnt come across as a traditional place, but that does not bother me - as long as people are nice/friendly etc. Should I consider to move to Milton Keynes? Any major difference in culture of the two cities? Poshiness of people?

To be honest, I have been very pleased with Reading so far, just that the school element is making us consider the move - and we love a town centre lifestyle.

Private schools are beyond our budget so not considering. Also, not considering other places as we have shorltisted to final 2 - Reaading or Milton Keynes due to fast connections to London, amongst other reasons.

Any tips/thoughts - would be very much welcome.

Hi,
We are looking to a buy our first home and someone has recommended us to buy a property in Milton Keynes. We are not aware of the area. We are a couple and planning to have kids soon. I was wondering if anyone can help us with selecting a right area that has better/grammar schools. We also would like to know from a local about renting a property. Is it easier to rent a house or sell a house in Milton Keynes?

RedSkyLastNight · 12/06/2019 14:02

@Riba2019 - I suggest you start your own thread with your specific information/request. Most people won't realise you have posted at the end of a very old one.
