Advice on moving to Morden?

My partner and I have been trying for nearly a year to buy a property in this crazy London market and only recently we saw that you can get more bang for you buck in Morden. Does anyone live there now that can advice me? Is it a safe area? Hoping to have a baby in the next 2 years so I want a family friendly place with good schools. We must stay south to south west as I work in Kings Cross and my partner works in Surrey. Thanks for any advice you may have!!! Grin

I don't live there but I know the area. It's definitely safe around there, much quieter than a lot of London as you're fairly far out but can still get into the city quite easily. My friend has her DC in a school in Morden and she finds it good but things can obviously improve or get worse within the next few years.

We are a bit further north...Balham. But I'd gave no issues round the bits of Morden that I know. Plus tooting is on your doorstep. I love it round here.

Someone was saying to me only yesterday that "being in Morden is like being in the country" - slight exaggeration but you get the gist...It's very much the positive side of semi-detached surburbia - lots of affordable but large housing stock (although all inter-war), goodish transport infrastructure, relatively quiet and peaceful, cheap(ish) by London standards.

30 mins up the Northern Line and you're in the City, 20 mins' drive the otherway and you're into Surrey (Epsom and beyond).

We were talking about it only the other evening at our 'seasonal soiree'. We were all of the opinion that Morden is ripe for development (the town centre assuredly needs some TLC), so it's probably a good time to buy/invest. Who knows, in twenty years time, Morden could be the new Balham (although I appreciate it doesn't have quite the same quality of period housing that the latter has). Certainly if Crossrail 2 comes to Wimbledon (one of the options), disruption there might benefit other parts of the borough big-time, which may not necessarily be a bad thing...

Good luck!

Well Morden has a very good Tube station so you a guaranteed a seat, there are plenty of buses and the properties are good value. There are some very good schools, including the Selective ones in range and Wimbledon is close and has a lot to offer so what's not to love?

Transport links are good, the town centre currently leaves something to be desired (apart from the great Morden Library), but the only way is up. And it's definitely on the 'up' in terms of professionals and young families buying there (priced out of nearby Raynes Park and Wimbledon). AND there's Morden Hall Park on your doorstep - what more could you ask for????

Hello! Smile
My partner and I are looking to buy in and around Modern area but have little knowledge of how it is to live and how the social life is. We will be moving from central london (Swiss cottage) and are looking to start a family soon.
How is the area like for young families, reviews on schools and any other tips on the lifestyle will be highly appreciated.
