Hello all,

I have just put an offer on a house in Haughton, is there anyone on here who lives local to the area that can give me insider information about places to go etc...... Also can anyone let me know thoughts of AbbeyGate school???
Thanks in advance xx

Morning and welcome to the Cheshire pages! I am not familiar with the area but I can tweet and Facebook and ask for you.

What I do know is a fab pub called The Nags Head in Haughon, details here

www.nagsheadhaughton.co.uk/

I will keep you posted.

Well done, lovely place. I am a couple of miles away. Abbey Gate is apparently good if you have children who struggle to fit in elsewhere. However, all the local state schools are very good indeed. Bunbury is in special measures, but only because of the old head who is no longer there now. It was 'outstanding' until she came along, and the staff are broadly the same. I would save the commute to Abbey Gate and try somewhere local, personally.

I don't know Haughton but I do know Abbeygate and its an all round great school. Friends' children have had a marvellous education there and have been very happy.

Houghton is a long drive to abbeygate, if you were closer such as Tattenhall, waverton etc or saighton it would be more doable.

Hi! Did you settle on a school? We are also moving to the area and have looked at Abbey Gate. Also looking at Kings and Grange. How old are your kids? x

mimmim · 08/02/2016 14:43

Hello,

I am still unsure, I want to go private to begin with until I get my feet, but still set on AbbeyGate I think. I thought about Kings but I think its tooo full on.

My kids are (G) 6 1/2 and (B) 3.

RSBS4 - where are you moving to?

Hi,
We are moving to Tarporley, where are you?

RSBS4 · 09/02/2016 05:57

I am thinking more for private too but the state schools are also really good. Where are you coming from?

mimmim · 29/02/2016 18:59

No way, we are moving just beside Tarporley from London!

For your DD have a serious look at Queen's. I appreciate it is an all girls' school which isn't for everyone, but our Y5 DD is absolutely thriving there. Looking to the future, I believe that currently they have the some of the best GCSE results in the area (if not the best). And for your son there is The Firs School just down the road, or the newly opened King's Infant School. I have no experience of the last two, but know of them through their reputation. But I would strongly suggest looking at Queen's.

RSBS4 · 01/03/2016 10:40

Thanks for that! I was impressed by queens too. Good to hear your experience. Think I will have another look. 👍🏼

Bagend · 01/03/2016 10:50

Do have a look. It has a reputation for being very academic, high achieving etc. However once you're actually in the school it's completely different. The girls really are of all levels of ability, and the extra curricular stuff (all types of sport, computing, art etc) are second to none. And the streaming system means that all the girls work to their own level, rather than all abilities in one class (which I think Abbeygate has? (although I might be wrong)). A friend who recently had a look around commented that the girls were all engaged and interested - and not sitting at desks all the time, but up, outside, working on projects, debating, using computers etc. It's a personal view, but I'm glad that our DD is there.

Hi!

I would definitely recommend looking at the new King's Infant School, it looks fantastic, it even has a little Forest School area for outdoor learning!
I have DCs at King's (in juniors and seniors) and they are very happy there, so I cant fault it one bit. It has so many different after school clubs so I don't always have to rush from work to pick them up which is a big help.

I also know that some of the local state schools have a really good reputation. However I would recommend viewings or taster days as that's the only real way to get a proper feel of a school. I'm pretty sure that the Infant School here at King's have a taster day coming up sometime in May.

Hope that helps, and best of luck with your search!
