relocating from London with family

Hi everyone,

This is my first time ever writing in a forum + English is not my first language so I apologise in advance if anything is unclear/confusing or not posted on the right page.
To explain quickly our family situation: My husband has recently started working in Hull and I currently live and work in London with my 2 daughters. They both go to school in London DD1 in year 5 and DD2 in Reception. We are currently both renting in London and Hull (my husband coming back home for the weekends). This is not an ideal situation and we are now considering joining him there and buy a property in Hull (or around).
Problem is this is quite daunting : first time buyers, not knowing anything about that part of the UK, coupled with the need to be within the catchment area of good schools (primary and secondary).
Could you please advise on nice areas with good primary and secondary schools for us to look into? I’d appreciate if you could name the schools as well so that I can check the Ofsted report. Any feedback about the schools would help a lot.
With regard to the areas, it does not have to be Hull only. Both my husband and I are happy with 45min/1h commute by car. We will consider any areas as long as it is safe, nice and calm neighbourhood, have good schools and lots of activities for kids.

Thanks in advance

I would start your search in the west Hull villages eg Swanland, North Ferriby, Elloughton. They have good primaries and all are in catchment for South Hunsley secondary. I would avoid Brough, Hessle & east of the city (makes getting anywhere harder). Beverley is a lovely market town with plenty of activities for children - 10 miles from Hull city centre. Lots of new build if that takes your fancy. Molescroft & Keldmarsh primaries are good. Local people tend to rate the single-sex state secondaries (Beverley High & Beverley Grammar) over Longcroft.

Can I speculate that your DH works for the NHS?

Hi - Yes, if you check the following website for a school in one of the towns or villages West of Hull, dependant on how much you can spend on your house, you should find a nice place in the East Riding area. Good luck. www.education.gov.uk/schools/performance/
