best primary school with mixed population in glasgow

we live in london and planning to shift to glasgow as early as poss
We have a 4 yr old dd searching for a good primary school for her reception
had craigholme in mind.. pls kindly let me know regarding this nursery or any other nurseries or primary schools with good reviews (both state and independent schools)

Craigholme, as a (small) girls private school definitely won't be mixed.

One of the primary schools in that area - Glendale - has an excellent reputation, with very good HMI reports despite - or because of - its very mixed demographic, both ethnic (60% ethnic minorities) and economic (high number of FSMs but also within the school are kids from the "big" Victorian villas within the catchment.

A new, bigger school is currently bring built (with a Gaelic medium unit attached, which would feed to the Gaelic Secondary), which will be ready I think in December.

Given the school's popularity, I doubt that you would get in now for the start of the school year in August. However, there might be "extra" places once the new school is ready.

You might want to go to a different secondary to the associated catchment secondary (which is Bellahouston). Some of the kids from Glendale go onto to Shawlands Academy, a whole 5 minutes further walk away and which to date has been able to accept all placing requests.

Meant to ask - when is your dd's birthday? Depending on when she turns 5, she might only start P1 in August 2016.

Roughly, if she turns 5 before the end of the year, she would start P1 this August, January/February she'd have the option of starting P1 in August 2016 (technically, could defer from September onwards but in practice only Jan/Feb and maybe December kids defer).

Bankhead Primary in Ruthergelen is fab...as is Bankhead nursery (which is based within the school) It is a brand new building in a lovely quiet family friendly area :)

Whereabouts are you thinking of moving to? It would probably be nice for DD to live near some of her peers.

It is also worth pointing out, in case you are unfamiliar with the system, that there is no ranking of primary schools in Scotland. The vast majority of children go to their catchment schools, and the vast majority of parents don't try and move into a "desirable" catchment. Very few primary schools are oversubscribed, and if you live in a catchment at the time of enrolment for P1 you are guaranteed a place at your catchment school.
