Getting out of Balerno/Currie/Juniper Green at rush hour

Hi

Does anyone have any advice on what the traffic is like trying to get out of Balerno/Currie/Juniper Green at rush hour? We'd be looking to join the bypass going East and also travelling on further into Edinburgh but not all the way into the centre. I've heard bad reports as there's essentially only one road but could anyone give me approximate timings?

Thanks

Joining the bypass going east - you can either go along the Lanark Road to the Gillespie Crossroads, down Wester Hailes Road and on at Baberton Junction, or go down through Currie (joining Riccarton Mains Road), past Heriot Watt, along Calder Road a little and on at Calder Junction.

Not been up that way at AM rush hour for a while but most of the problems tended to be further along the road i.e. at the Juniper Green end. Or if there was some sort of crash the road would just snarl up completely. Going via Currie at least gives you an alternative if something's up. Also, if it's really bad (big crash or similar) then you can cut down through the country roads to join the A71 (A70, Ravelrig Road, Long Dalmahoy Road, down to the A71)

That's great, thanks. Could you give a rough estimate time wise to get from Balerno centre to the bypass at rush hour? Also does the bypass get snarled up around there - it always used to be bad further west but that was 12 years ago!

Not sure about during the rush hour, but in the daytime it takes about 10 minutes to drive from Balerno to the bypass.

When I was working in Currie, I used to go up by Herriot Watt as a quicker route compared to the Lanark Road.

All great info, thanks.
