Hi :) We are moving to Girton soon and have been looking around for a good nursery. We need one that is open all year round and long ish days (so term time only pre-schools are out). The most important thing is that my boys (age 1 and 3) are happy and safe - don't really care about what they learn etc! at this age. We are thinking Scallywags girton? does anyone have any experience with this nursery? I wasn't too keen on KU wolfson court when I viewed it, and not sure what else is out there (have heard mixed reviews about girton nursery). any ideas?? thank you thank you for your help!

I've heard good things about scallywags they have a good reputation. Have also heard good things about www.hrhnurseries.co.uk they have Girton Nursery so may be worth a look.

Hi, we've been going there for almost 6 years and been pretty happy with it. I like that it's fairly small and friendly. Also viewed Wolfson Court (6 years ago) and hated that.

Hi M90S91J14 and madamealfredcarriere!

Thanks very much for that! huge relief to hear good reviews about Scallywags! and madamealfredcarriere, if you've been using it for 6 years - that says to me you must be happy with it! thank you :)

I've had a very bad experience with Scallywags. My DS is at Girton Nursery and I can't praise them enough. They're great and very reasonably priced. The food is excellent and they even have gym no foreign language lessons included in the price. Do send me a private message if you want to know more.

I have used Scallywags in the past and was not impressed. Girton always seemed the poor relation compared to their other nursery in Westwick. This was some years ago and I know they have made some changes since.

I now use the Girton Nursery (HRH) which I am very happy with and much prefer to Scallywags. I know a lot of people who have been using this nursery for longer than me, and they are all very positive about it.

(Off topic, but if you can then come to Bobtails baby & toddler group on Monday or Thursday mornings in the pavilion. It's a lovely friendly playgroup and a great way to meet people especially if you are new to Girton.)

Hi GirtonGirl

Thanks for your post. Unfortunately girton nursery have no spaces till after christmas :( and they've been a bit weird about allowing me to visit which is a shame (and a bit strange? most nurseries seem to welcome show-rounds? - I guess girton nursery is so popular they don't need to offer show-rounds!) Anyway, this means we will have to stick with scallywags!

Thanks for the heads up re: bob tails! sounds great! we will try and pop along once we've moved and settled in!

thanks again for your post.

hi all

so my little one is at scallywags and it was quite good a few months ago, but there's been LOADS of staff changes in recent months, and new staff starting, and we are beginning to feel the warmth has left the building. Anyone else noticed this? Are there any other nurseries around that you think might take kids at short notice? (not sure I particularly want my little one going to scallywags anymore - just not happy there currently - all the staff look so tired and fed up as they just seem to be so overworked. There are a few other problems too - like the toilet area not being cleaned - it think staff don't have the time.) I don't mind chaos and mess, or somewhere where no learning takes place (we can always catch up later) but I do just desperately want to send my little one somewhere warm, friendly and caring???? any ideas for somewher (even if it means a long commute) that is caring and has spaces???????????????

I highly recommend Ladybird in Fenstanton. It may be a bit out of your way but the staff are outstanding, many have been there for years. It's warm and friendly. I like the fact that there is a lot of movement between rooms so I have felt my son has never had a chance to get bored. It's a lot cheaper than Cambridge nurseries too I think. Good luck with the search.

thank you :) will look into it!

Hi
Sorry to hear Scallywags is not working out.
I know Girton Nursery is full with a waiting list so that's no good for you.
In Histon there is Little Owls (at the Surestart centre / nursery school) but don't take them until 2 which might not help with your youngest. Also in Histon is the Wendy House which I know a couple of people who use.
Good luck!

Hi - If you're still considering which nursery - just thought I'd add we used Girton Scallywags for several years up until just over a year ago. We were pleased with it. My youngest now goes to a nursery local to where we moved to and it is nowhere near as good as Scallywags was - Scallywags did lots of extras (singing, forest school, events that parents could join, people in with animals to visit, trips out etc), good intro to phonics and lots of baking and crafts. Also, we used to get really detailed and useful feedback on what they'd been doing and how they were developing.

That said my experience is a bit out of date - and there were several staff changes just before we left and I know it doesn't take long for things to change quite quickly with nurseries. But just thought I'd add my two pence worth anyway!
