I'm looking for some local knowledge please!
We are moving back to the UK in June from Dubai but we will be totally new to the St Albans area.
Can anyone help me with inside knowledge about schools and nice areas to live. My kids (ages 2, 6, and 7) are used to a fairly big school...
Any schools re areas I should try to avoid.
Thanks so much for your time

This [http://www.hertsdirect.org/docs/pdf/admissions/aasrpri1516 report] has the info - see p 44. This gives you the PAN (i.e. how many children in a year) and the number of applications for that school. You'll see how many applications there are for each school . This gives you a general idea of which ones people like and which ones are not so popular. I have never heard anyone say they didn't like the school their child was at.

Distance from school is important as you are applying at a different time to everyone else and usually there will only be 1 or 2 places available in each school per year. And the nearest or the person with siblings will get that place.

Likelihood of getting your 6 and 7 year old into the same school at first attempt is pretty slim, unless you pay for private.

See Beechwood Park, Aldwickbury, Haberdashers Boys Prep, St Albans High School Girls (Prep), St Columbus). Of the privates, Habs and High School are best thought of / most academic / most selective.
