Hi

I'm moving with my 3 x chn (10; 12 & 13) to Gloucestershire in the next couple of months from North Yorkshire.

I'm currently in the process of applying for jobs (I work in Primary ed.) for a September start and the opportunities for these are just starting to appear.

However, the schooling of my 3 and their new prospective schools and looking for family housing is really hard when I don't know the area so well. I have been down a couple of times and was looking at Tewkesbury but after some research am unsure.

Can anyone offer any advice on nice family environments / areas and feedback on schools in Gloucester / Tewkesbury / Cheltenham. My youngest will go into Yr 6 in Sept with my other two into Yr 8 and 9 respectively.

I really appreciate your assistance

Thanks

hello, I'm from Gloucester but moved to Cheltenham once I left home so I know both towns very well.
Despite being quite an affluent town, Cheltenham's schools don't seem to have such a good reputation as those in Gloucester. (Unless it's Pates grammar school.)
My eldest child goes to Cleeve, which used to be the best you could get. However, there are so many people who comment that it's too big and is 'going down hill'. I've found the teachers are supportive and although it's a large school, it seems fine to me.
Gloucester's best school is St Peters. I speak from experience, it's fantastic. If I still lived in Gloucester, I would choose this school. I don't know where I can recommend to live in Gloucester though as everything's changed so much over the years. I have to admit I left Gloucester because I found it just so run down. I didn't really feel safe!
Now, I live in Winchcombe. This is the perfect place. There is a strong sense of community. There are lots of families, it's a safe place to live. The scenery is amazing, we have a castle, loads of lovely walks to go on and it's only 4 miles from Cheltenham and not too far from Tewkesbury either. I don't know Tewkesbury very well but I think it's a little run down and don't forget that Tewkesbury floods very badly!
Back to Winchcombe, it also has a lovely primary school and secondary school. Both are friendly and small with good or outstanding ofsted reports. There are new houses being built here at the moment along gretton road and greet and they look really lovely. I do suggest you look in to Winchcombe as it does seem to tick all your boxes! I would also suggest Bishops Cleeve, Leckhampton and Charlton Kings (there is a very good secondary school in charlton kings I've just remembered!)
