Leith Links

We have recently relocated to Edinburgh and are renting at the moment but looking to buy. Houses look reasonable in terms of price and size in Leith Links but I've heard mixed reviews about how nice the area is. Can anyone share any insight or opinions? I don't know if I'm being influenced by the bad reputation Leith used to have. Leith Links isn't too far from the Shore which seems a lovely area and the colony type streets seem nice. TIA xx

I know it well and Its pretty grim. Although can have some nice old houses. Lots of dog shit and junkies. I would recommend elsewhere.

I agree, we used to live just beside the links and left 4 years ago because it seemed to be getting worse.

It is grim.
Don't know where you work, but there is a new rail link due to open on the South of Edinburgh connecting to the Borders. I have recently bought a property near a new opening station, ( journey time 14 minutes to Princes Street) property is still cheap along the line atm, but will rise dramatically one the link is open. Might be worth considering if you want to make a quick £15K.

Hi
I live near the links, amidst the poo and junkies, but despite that I love it here. There is a great community spirit here and my neighbours are friendly and helpful.
I moved from the new town to leith and can honestly say that I didn't know any of my neighbours when I lived there.
Within a mile there is a Tesco, a sainsbury, a Morrisons, a Lidl and an Asda. There are plentiful buses (I hate buses, but they beat finding parking in the city centre). There are great butchers, bakers, fishmongers At the foot of leith walk.
The shore is great with lots of cafes, bars and excellent restaurants.
The links are handy for jogging, tennis, boule, cricket, football or whatever, or just for sitting.
For children there are lots of activities locally, classes and groups: brownies etc
The kirkgate is a hilarious but extremely cheap, just don't sit on the benches, they are reserved for the tramps.
It is a strange gentrified area, but I moved from London and like the urban mix.
It's not for everyone, but if you do come to view properties and need a guide send me a PM and I would be happy meet you for a coffee somewhere junkie-free and show you around.

It's urban. Personally, I wouldn't class urban as 'grim', but each to their own I suppose... it's a vibrant, mixed community, plenty to do, great transport links, great cafes, bars, restaurants - everything that poopig says basically.
