Advice on Walton / Esher / Weybridge

Hi everyone,

I am hoping for some help regarding living in the Walton /Esher / Weybridge area. My husband and I currently live in Zone 3 but are looking to relocate further out as we are planning on starting a family and want a house / area to support this. Good state schools are important to us, as is a family friendly area. We would also like to be near to some restaurants / pubs. Our budget is £500-550k for a three bedroom house and we both work in central London so need to be near a train station.

Can anyone tell me whats it like to live in the area, what the schools are like etc (I have read some threads but they seem to be older). Also, any areas to definitely avoid?

I would really appreciate any advice you have as the whole process of finding somewhere we want to raise a family is quite daunting!

Thank you!

It's a great area. How far from the station are you willing to go? none of those stations are in the town centre. Esher in particular is very expensive and not sure you would get a 3 bed in your budget.

Thank you for your reply! Yes, we have now crossed Esher off our list due to budget. In terms of distance from the station, if it's Hersham station we are going to then distance of around a mile is ok but we would want to be closer than that in Weybridge as the train journey is longer. What are the best areas that kind of distance from the stations?

Hi, we went to see a house on Molesley Road today (KT12, near Hersham station) that we really love but there seem to be quite a few houses for sale on the same road and therefore worried there is something we don't know! Does anyone know that area? Thank you!

Hi Katy
I'm currently living in Esher (renting) but am in the process of buying a house in Hersham, as with a budget and requirements similar to yours, we couldn't find anything suitable that we could afford in Esher.
Hersham seems to tick most of the boxes however. You get more for your money and it has good schools, a community vibe and lots of young families around (we have a 1 year old).
I too viewed house on molesey road which was lovely inside and out but I found the road itself a bit too busy. I actually walked by there yesterday and commented to my husband about the number of houses for sale in such close proximity to one another! I'm not sure if there's any specific reason for this albeit there has been something on the Hersham facebook page recently about a potential waste recycling plant near Hersham station which may have something to do with it...
We offered on a house near the green in the end (other side of the big roundabout) which seems to be a nice and quiet area with a village type atmosphere. There's a Costa, Waitrose and highly regarded nursery and talk of a bakery opening soon. It's also almost equidistant to walton and Hersham train stations so we can use either albeit the walk is around 15 mins!
I have friends who live in the oatlands area of weybridge. That's lovely too and has some really good schools, it's about a mile from walton station I think. I'm sure you'd get a 3 bed there at the upper end of your budget. Good luck with the search, I hope it goes well!! ?

There is a great Hersham and Walton Mums group on Facebook, I would suggest joining that (it's run by a lovely lady called jessica) and getting the lowdown on that area. You should be able to find something within your budget within an easy walk to the station there.

It's pretty much exactly a mile from the centre of Weybridge to the station, so to be closer than that you need to live between the station and the town, or on the Brooklands side of the station (further away from the town, get a lot more for your money). You could probably get something within your budget between the station and Brooklands but I think you would struggle to get anything nearer the town.
