Moving to leeds

My family and i are moving to Leeds in 3 weeks time from Africa. However we have lived in Manchester before for 2 years which should make our settlin in much easier. I have 2 children; a 4 year old and a 1 year old. The 4 year old is due to start school this september and we have communicated with the city council. I need advice on areas which we could consider to stay in which are good for a family, with good church of England schools, and with easy access to the trains considering hubby will be working in the city centre. Thanks

I think you might struggle to get into the school you want now unfortunately. What did the council say?

Trains are good if you're near a station but it's not that extensive a network. Kirkstall St Stephens, St Margarets in Horsforth, Cookridge Holy Trinity and Hawksworth (Guiseley) might fit the bill.

Does depend on your budget as well, some of these areas are fairly expensive.

Hi Jothur

We moved to West Park last year. St Chads, Meanwood School and Kirkstall St Stephens are the C of E schools closest to us (less than 1mile away). They all have a good reputation and are often oversubscribed, from what I hear. Your application will have to be supported by a letter from your faith leader. Your partner would need to take the bus to the city centre rather than the train.

As suggested above, it might be tricky getting your preferred school at present as the allocations are currently being processed. Having said that I think the council have to offer you a school place within a reasonable distance. There is no harm in taking up that offer and going on the waiting list for your preferred school. I have heard Horsforth and Chapel Allerton are nice areas for families but dont know about schooling. Hope that helps.Smile

Thanks ladies this is really helpful. I hadn't thought of the idea of going on the waiting list which is actually brilliant. I will put this into consideration. Smile
