Parttime nanny/ childcare

Hi, all is looking good with our move to Oxford in the summer. I have managed to get a school place for my daughter and a nursery spot for my son.

However, it is proving tricky to get afterschool care!

I am looking for a parttime nanny: term time school pickups and holidays extra care;occasional drop offs&babysitting. Approx 20hours/week over 2-3 days/ week in Headington area.

I am not using this an advert but looking for advice. I have looked at gumtree, posted on 'Daily Info' and some childcare websites but a very mixed response.

It is tricky as we are still up north. Conisdering nanny sharing/ a student to help. Is it maybe not enough hours to make it lucrative? Is it the two location issue (one Headington pickup and one Christchurch)?
We don' t need a full day/ full time nanny (& won' t be able to afford one due to the expense of moving etc)

Thank you so much for all the advice and help folk have given so far. All much appreciated.

I hope to hear from anyone soon.

I should think you could get a student to do those sorts of times.

Are you requiring a car driver or are you happy for someone to collect by bus? Driving in Oxford is somewhat tricky and you may not find a young person who feels confident enough to take it on.

Is it possible you aren't offering enough money? The cost of living is high here and unemployment is not much of a problem. So if you are offering a similar wage to what you'd expect to pay up north, people may turn their noses up at it. I can't say how much IS reasonable as I haven't used a nanny/babysitter in the way you intend.

However, as Oxford is a popular tourist destination and rents are high, if you have the space in your house for an au pair then that could be a good option for you.

Hi, Thanks for the good advice. We are looking for a porperty but probably won' t be able to afford anything big enough to accomodate an au pair.

I will keep your tips in mind.

Cheers.

If you want good afterschool and holiday care for the child not in nursery have a look at KidActive, they pick up from Headington schools. I would also consider contacting Oxford Brookes to advertise for babysitting as they have lots of nursing/teaching/early years students who would be happy to earn some extra around their studies and will be DBS checked as part of their courses...
