Afterschool care

Recently went back to work full-time. Shock to the system big time and my kids aren't very happy about it AT ALL! They are in P3 and P6 and have always known me as a SAHM. I thought I would put them in the Afterschool club but how naive was I? It's full to the gunnels and has a waiting list. Local childminders are all at capacity and tend to have younger children or kids that they've been looking after since toddler age. I'm lucky that there are a few Mums that have taken my kids on a day-to-day basis but they won't accept money and their kids aren't necessarily friends with my kids which causes some tensions at times!

I'm looking for the holy grail of childcare I realise - a childminder that can collect my kids at 3.15 take them to my home (less than 10 minute walk away) and look after them till I get home at 6. Has anyone ever had this type of childcare? I went on one of those online sites where you can see everyone's details but you need to pay more to make direct contact - I found what I thought sounded like a perfect candidate who put their phone number on the site but couldn't make contact (left messages, texts etc.)

I'm in G12/West End area. Any suggestions?

have you tried gumtree?

That's a nanny not a childminder

I know people that have thia type of set up. Usually found through Gumtree. Sometimes a student. However what are you going to do in the holidays? Do you expect the nanny to work full days then?

I totally agree it is a nightmare! After much stressing I wrote a letter to my daughter's classes' teaching assistant asking if she or any of the other ta's would be interested in childminding after school- and to my delight she said yes! Might be worth trying at your school.

Will have a look at GumTree - always been a bit resistant but as long as you vet them thoroughly and get references am sure it will be fine. So I should ask for a Nanny not a childminder - thanks for the steer on terminology. I've asked at the school office and they put a text out to all parents but that didn't glean anything. My partner and I are taking all our leave over the Summer (no weeks when we're off together unfortunately). My contract is for a year and then I am going to have to decline any full-time jobs unless I have something workable in place - it's just too hard and the kids hate it! doesn't help that I am also studying so they aren't seeing much of me at the weekend and they've been eating a lot of shite, thrown-together meals!

you'll see lots of adverts on gumtree for this sort of thing, called an after school nanny who will help out in the holidays (dont forget Easter and the Oct week, also long weekends in May and sept and Xmas too!!)

good luck op

Are the local after school clubs full? That's kind of worrying as I too am in the G12 postcode and this is what I was hoping to do when my DS goes to school, probably next year but if things don't work out it might be this August. I naively thought I would get a place, at worst waiting a few months.

I know a mum at the G12 school my DS will be attending who was a qualified childcare assistant at a local west end nursery and who was doing childcare after it closed. I know she has found p\t nursery job but I could ask if you can tell me what school you are at. I wouldn't ask as I know she will not take money from me and my parents can help out anyway
