Balerno/Currie/Juniper Green

Second go!

If you had the choice where would you move to out of Balerno/Currie/juniper Green? They all seem quite similar but would welcome some knowledgable locals! Ideally I'd be looking for a small community where we can walk to school and also places to meet up with friends.

Any ideas how long we would have to wait for a P2 place to come up at the local schools?

Thanks

We live right on the edge of the Juniper green primary catchment and both my DC went there ( now at secondary). It is a fantastic school with a really strong Head, and attracts a lot of out of catchment requests which are rarely granted, so if you are looking to go there the you need to be sure you are in catchment. In terms of P2 entry I would phone the school directly and ask as there is really no other way of knowing the up to date situation.

Juniper green has an active community council, there is a good park with playground, a small local tennis club, a couple of nice coffee shops and the
Railway inn is good for pub lunches or meeting with friends in the evening. Obviously with all these villages you have easy access to the
Water of Leith which is great for walking or cycling. There is an active church community and lots of dance/Cubs/ other after school activities in the community and church halls. The Baberton golf club is newly refurbished clubhouse. The community in Juniper green is sort of split between the Baberton housing estate and the houses on the Lanark road side of the school.

Thanks 3nationedinburgh. Juniper Green sounds lovely! We'd definitely be looking at moving into school catchment area - I love being able to walk to and from school as well as having friends nearby to call on. Any areas that you'd avoid or alternatively that you'll recommend?

There is nowhere really I wouldn't recommend. It depends on your budget and housing requirements. The area is largely private owned houses with a few newer blocks of apartments.

That's great, thanks again.

Hi 3nation if you're still about. What are the roads like in winter?

Thanks

The council keep all the bus routes clear so the main Lanark road is always clear. It is quite high up but the further out you go to Currie and Balerno the higher it gets.
