Good primary schools in Bristol - possible move out of Easton!

Hi, looking for advice / help. We currently live in Easton and have a 2 and a half yr old and baby. Local primary schools results not great ( apart from Whitehall which is tiny catchment) so considering moving. Really love Easton And ideally want to stay fairly local either st George or fishponds as would miss multicultural stuff otherwise but don't know rest of Bristol well. Any suggestions? We can't afford frenchay park or bishopston really. Thanks a lot

Out a bit further to St. George? I know people who have kids at Two Mile Hill, Air Balloon and Summerhill and all are happy with them. Speedwell nursery school is very good too.

Glenfrome Primary Eastville?

Hello - I was in a really similar position a couple of years ago; really loving where I lived but filled with dread looking around at primary schools. In the end, DS was offered a place at May Park and I was gutted because it is such a huge school and I really hadn't liked it when I visited.

However, before DS started there they finished a load of building work - they now have empty classrooms in the upper school ready to take the extra children in the lower year groups. Because they have planned for the numbers it really doesn't feel like a big school. Unlike Whitehall, which I have heard is due to have a 'bulge' class next year which will mean portacabins in the playground.

The outdoor space for the Reception classes is the best of any school I have visited - they have lots of trees and they are really encouraged to explore the space. There is also a proper woodland area owned by the school which is used for forest school. In year 2 they do a 'night visit' to look for nocturnal animals and do marshmallows on a fire.

DS has settled really well and has been so enthusiastic about all the new things he has been learning - I have been so impressed with the teachers, who really seem to focus on fostering a love of learning. The headteacher is out the front every morning welcoming every child by name.

In the end he also got offered a place at St Werburghs because they have an extra class this year so their catchment has gone from tiny to huge, but I wouldn't move DS now.

Good luck with your decisions - I hope you find somewhere that is right for you.

Thanks so much everyone, loads to think about! Wildgeese thanks for yr reassurance re May park, it's great that your son has settled so well there. I guess I need to go and look round. We are viewing houses near air balloon but it just feels really different from easton so not sure what to do! Guess it will become clear soon; I hope so anyway!

St Werburghs has just taken over another site just up the road so am assuming their catchment will stay larger - site looks lovely though DS same age as your eldest so haven't any direct experience of the school. Good luck!
