Views on Newham General to give birth / what to do in Forest Gate?

Hi,

I've recently moved to Forest Gate and I'm due to give birth at the beginning of May - if I can hold out that long!

I booked in at Newham General and was so unimpressed with the whole process there. I've heard mixed reviews about the labour ward and birthing suite though. Does anyone have any positive feedback?

I'm due to start my maternity leave in March and already have a toddler, so if anyone fancies meeting up or can advise on things to do in the area with little ones I'd love to hear!

Thanks, Jo

Hi Jo, I've been in a very similar situation... I moved here in August and also had to choose a hospital without knowing too much about them... I decided to go to Homerton, I'm due in March so might be able to tell you more afterwards. I haven't heard great things about Newham I have to say but I've been with my toddler once to the A&E and it was really great, completely new and refurbished and people were great there... Would be nice to meet up for a coffee! PM if you are interested...

Hello!
I live in Forest Gate with three little girls and I am an enormous fan. There is a lovely playgroup at St Mark's church on Lorne Road, and another at the Baptist Church opposite McDonalds on Romford Road. Also a lively Newham NCT with frequent meet-ups (you can find them on Facebook, then do email to get on the distribution lists).
Kay Rowe is fabulous but toddler groups are quite limited in numbers now. Discover in Stratford is gorgeous. Well worth annual membership. Baby cinema in Stratford when you have your little one.
I had my first at Newham General. Ages ago now but it was totally fine. I found wherever you choose there are people desperate to slag it off at length, and in the end I just told them not to, "please don't tell me your horror stories, because I am having my baby there, and hearing them stresses me out."
Good luck!

Thanks for replies! Yes I thought birth is a pretty grim experience anyway so wherever you go, people are bound to have something bad to say. You could be at a lovely hospital but just get a bad mw on the day who ruins it all!

I don't get notifications on replies so here's me thinking I was being ignored till I just checked in!. Kathryn I'll pm u - I think we met at the playgroup about 2 weeks ago and was going to suggest a meet up anyways?!

Hiya! I gave birth at Newham General a little over a year ago and I have no complaints about my experience at all. I wouldn't worry about it - all throughout my pregnancy I was forced to hear horrible stories about NG but I took no notice of what was said. And I'm glad!

I live in East Ham and the children's centres offer lots of sessions for babies and toddlers alike. Please PM me if you would like to meet to discuss more of if you want more info Smile
