Advice on house move - East Ren/ East Dumbartonshire/ Bothwell?

Hello,

Myself and my husband are planning to move out into the suburbs from the west end of Glasgow and looking at either East Dumbartonshire (Lenzie/ Kirkintilloch/ Bishopbriggs), East Renfrewshire (Netherlee, Busby) and Bothwell/ Uddingston area.

We don't have kids yet but hopefully will in the near future so ideally would like to move somewhere with good schools. I also need to be max 20mins walk from a train station and ideally be a walkable distance from a few pubs/ shops/ cafes. My husband would ideally love to live somewhere in the countryside and somewhere which still has a community feel.

We're finding it difficult to narrow down the location as he wants to have a lot of green space and I want a few cafes, pubs and restaurants. All within walking distance of a train station that will get us into Glasgow in 15 or so minutes.

Does anyone have any thoughts about the above areas?

We have driven around Bishopbriggs/ Lenzie and I was quite impressed although if we were to move to Lenzie it would need to be near Kirkintilloch end for the cafes etc.

Thanks,

Amanda

Hi there, we're also looking to move to the Glasgow area from the south east of England. Husband will be working in the west end, and we're trying to narrow down our search areas. We have a 3 year old and a 1.5 year old so toddler groups, nurseries/pre-schools and primaries are all factors. I grew up on the west coast and went to uni in Glasgow but kids bring a whole new dimension! We're looking at Lenzie and Milngavie as possibilities as they seem to have the right combination of countryside, good transport links to Glasgow and good schools - on paper at least. I think we can just afford to buy a house in either of these places. Coming from a small Scottish town myself I am a bit concerned about "wee town" mentality and how readily we'd be welcomed into the community, especially as I won't have work to begin with. I will go stir crazy just me and the kids all week so easy access to things to do/other mums will be important! I would really appreciate anyone's thoughts/experiences of these areas and other suggestions would also be very welcome (especially if we can get more house for our money elsewhere without compromising too much on the other things). Thank you.
