Hi
Can anyone please recommend a good child dermatologist in the Chester/Crewe area please? We live in Tarporley and my son suffers from severe eczema. After eighteen months and three different consultants it is worse than ever. He has been on antibiotics continuously for nine months only for us to be told by the new consultant that he shouldnt have been on them as they wont help! I am now looking to find a private consultant with a proven track record! ...

look up ITSAN. my son aged 17 now had baby eczema and was treated with a selection of moisturisers and hydrocortisone at low 1% since. by the time he was on 3% at 16 for short periods he had a red raw flare up whenever he eased off the creams. ITSAN believe hydrocortisones are "addictive" in that the body relies on them and while you apply them the body is happy however when you stop for a few days the body craves it and turns hot, feels burning rather than itchy and you end up applying more thinking it is eczema. The only cure is to go cold turkey for 18months which my son is up to 10 months on. the ITSAN site will show you all about it and the cold turkey effects which were horrendous to go through. he has not put 1 bit of hydrocortisone on since last Easter, went through hell but is happy knowing he actually doesn't really have eczema only the side effects of poorly prescribed/controlled prescriptions.
He uses Aveeno on prescription and nothing else except simple shampoo. if he showers he has goat soap from Northwich artisan market and if he hs a bath I fill an old sock with porridge oats and put it under the hot water, it stops the burn for a while. Good luck. He has seen a specialist Dr Yell but all she says is "do you want hydrocortisone!" Dr Matthews at danebridge is the only pro who has listened and agreed and has referred him back to same specialist for light therapy on damaged skin.

p.s. he also takes anti histamine every day which he says helps. he never wears buttons, shirts with lumpy or scratchy seams, collars, sleeves! (went short sleeves and shorts to college this winter!!) sleeps almost naked and has a 4 tog quilt. tells me oranges, orange juice make him burn more -yet to notice that one.
