School catchment area in Scarcroft

Hello all, we initially looked at houses in Horsforth (to buy) but we are now looking at Scarcroft instead.

Does anyone know what primary + secondary schools the children living around Ling Lane, Bracken Park and/or Bay horse Lane in Scarcroft go to? i've had a look on ofsted, there seem to be no school located within a mile in the area!

We really don't want to send our children to private school as that's a huge commitment. any good state schools within the catchment area in Scarcroft?

Any advice will be appreciated.

I don't think there are any local schools in scarcroft.
When I was looking around areas to buy, from my research the local schools were in shadwell and thorner.
Scarcroft has some lovely big houses that are reasonably priced in comparison to some other areas of Leeds.
my general opinion is that most people send their kids to private school in the area though.
Basically what you save in house you spend on education! We knew we wanted a biggish family hence good local schools essential.
The other thing with scarcroft is that it borders seacroft which is quite a different area.
Good luck!

If you have a big budget roundhay is good but has a very very small cachement area for the good school/s so be careful where you buy. Houses in the cachement area are ridiculously priced and drop significantly if you're out of the cachement area.

Adel another nice area - but no real centre to it. Might be worth a look if you've not considered.
We're in Horsforth and love it but pay the premium that comes with living there.

thanks so much for your reply.

We also like Horsforth but not sure about the aircraft noise. Is it very bad? as the house we look at is quite close to brownberrie lane. it's towards the end of west end lane. I was told you can hear the flight in the garden but it's not too loud. west end lane is not under the flight path but it's very close to it. xx

I don't know the road exactly but have looked at a house near the train station and you could practically touch the plane as it's landing! Viewed another on Layton road and don't remember flight path being an issue.
Why don't you try and view when it's a busy flight time and then you can get a real idea. The house near the train station must have had about three planes land in about 20 minutes.
Horsforth is very desirable at the moment - house prices going up ridiculously. you don't get as much house compared to other areas but you get the local amenities, train station, good schools etc.
if we weren't living in Horsforth our alternative would be harrogate.

Like Limpets says I would guess the majority in Scarcroft go private. I guess it depends on how long you are planning on living there but are you considering secondary schools too? That's partly why Horsforth has become so popular, because they've tightened up the boundaries for pupils going to Horsforth school.

I commented on your other thread I think, but I would be surprised if you find the aircraft noise that bad on West End Lane.

In my experience most go private. We've chosen Gateways in Harewood and are very happy. There are others, though this school really gets my DS. Couldn't be happier.

Hello all

Scarcroft itself doesn't have a village school - it's a very peaceful, small semi-rural village so hasn't really needed one over the years. It would be lovely to have a school here one day but not sure numbers would justify it.

Houses are very expensive but worth it to live in the area - the particular areas you mention include the most expensive streets in Yorkshire and the Humber - Bracken Park and Ling Lane. A very good investment if you can afford it.

You could go to somwhere cheaper and less exclusive such as Horsforth which will have plenty of state schools but I personally would go for the better area. We pushed our budget and are thankful we made the choice we did every day.

Scarcroft borders Thorner, Bardsey cum Rigton and Shadwell. All have village schools which are good. For catholic schools it's in the catchment for Wetherby St Joseph's which is excellent. For high schools there's a transport service to St John Fisher Harrogate - an excellent school.

It's true that most of Scarcroft residents go private but that tends to be because they can afford it and not a reflection of schools in the area.

Hope this helps with your decision if I'm not too late! Good luck!!
