Basically my daughter is due to start reception in September. Both these schools are in our catchment area and we are catholic. So both we should have no trouble getting into. My problem is I always had holy family (the school is went to as a child) as my first choice. I had applied to both for a nursery place as we were out of the catchment area at the time. So applied for both to hopefully get one. She ended up getting into both. Lime Tree let me know first. So I accepted. They also offered a number of taster sessions which we attended. A month or so later holy family offered my daughter a place. I accepted this too as I was overjoyed she had got in there. However when I went to the one taster day they had it wasn't very impressed whereas I was wowed by limetree. My mind has never settled since. I chose limetree after reading both ofsted reports. Lime tree received outstanding. My daughter seems happy to go to nursery however I am still unsure if have made the right decision. I always wanted her to go to a Catholic school. I'm in turmoil over this. I feel stupid for being so stressed but my mind won't rest :(. Therefore I was wondering if anyone had any views on these schools or any advice? Thanks x

The secondary schools have "baptised RC" and "practicing RC", but can't name feeder schools.

I'll have to look into it at holy family. As that is our parish. We go to church most Sundays so hopefully shouldn't be a problem for her to do her holy communion when it comes to that time. Just hope I have made the right decision. Never thought I'd be this stressed out about school places :/ x

Also.. why, I don't know, but I don't mind that she wouldn't go to an RC secondary school. It's more primary as that is where I felt I learnt and enjoyed learning about the Rc faith. Secondary we studied all religions. Plus I'd definitely prefer her to have a multi faith education at secondary school age.

Oops, I am local, but my DCs aren't Catholic enough (I'm confirmed RC but moved to C of E when I came up to Mcr). Didn't even bother putting DD in for Loreto's entrance exams as we were 7th category on the criteria, missed the subtleties of higher criteria, but I know a few RC children in DD's C of E school have gone there.

They may give preference to children from RC primaries but most from take the next category in reality - Loreto certainly does. Most have some non RC too

Just wondered. TBH, there's time for them to change the criteria, mine are a bit older and although I didn't think about it when eldest was 4, I am glad to have the extra options now I realise what a minefield secondary education in Trafford is!

But once you're in to subsequent catagories, you are on distance, so not assured a place?

rach3l3l · 10/02/2015 21:42

I went to Loreto and we had a few girls who were not catholic

It's a minefield everywhere. At least in Trafford there are several good options as there are in Manchester in reality. In 6-7 years so much can change. Grammar exams and selection could change or one school go down the pan and the whole game would change!!

rach3l3l · 11/02/2015 10:18

I agree. So many secondary schools are improving now. And selection for grammar will probably change again. It's hard as by that age your children will have an opinion of where they prefer to go. At 3 years old it's all down to us :(

Does anyone know if alot of RC children go to non catholic primary schools? yet still practice their religion?

There is at least 1 practicing RC children in DD's CofE primary (and DCs of no religion, Muslim, Quaker, Methodist - DD is the only one from her class that kept going to the attached church after year R!)
