Trent College & where to live

Annacatdog · 18/01/2015 22:53

We're soon relocating from overseas to the UK and our daughter is hoping to go to Trent College (we're going through the application process). Does anyone know anything about the areas around the college to live? Best or worse places?

Hi Anna.

Trent College is in Long Eaton, which isn't a bad place to live. It's a boarding college though and day pupils are bussed in from all over Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire so it depends on what sort of area you're looking for - rural, city - what budget you have, whether you want to be close to a lot of shops etc?

Hi,

Thanks for your reply ??
We'd prefer semi-rural as we have dogs and a budget up to 450,000. It'd be nice to walk to a pub and have other houses/teenagers around for my daughter. Where we live currently, means getting the car out to go anywhere or for my daughter to meet up with friends.
I'd also like to have a horse ( I'm leaving mine behind) so having stables nearby would be a huge plus for me !!

Not a lot eh!!

Borrowash in Derbyshire is lovely and not too far from Trent College, then there's Rowley which has the fields for horses. I'll have a think for some more Smile There's a lovely girl's school in Nottingham as well so it may be worth looking into (I have a boy at the boy's school).

I went to look at the girls school and although they do well academically, I wasn't that impressed with the facilities. I was surprised that I went co-ed as my daughter is currently At an all girls school and thought I'd never entertain co-ed as an option! She's heavily into art and drama and that swung it towards Trent. I also had a lovely feeling about it when I went for the tour.

I'll look on Right Move at those places - thank you!

Hi Anna!

Long Eaton's a funny on - some parts look really nice but overall it's not the best place in the area. If it's countryside you're looking for, I'd try slightly south of Long Eaton, just over the border into Leicestershire. There are some lovely villages and small towns there surrounded by fields and it's not far from Long Eaton. Gotham is very nice, or Bunny, Sutton Bonington or Ruddington. Parts of Borrowash are quite nice, but having grown up near there and also in Leicestershire, I'd say that Leicestershire is a bit prettier and more pleasant generally.
