Hi all. We're moving to Cambridge from South Wales. We've three school going children.Good primary school is a priority. We've looked around the properties & short listed some areas. Still confused about choosing South or north of Cambridge. What it's like living in Duxford? Pls help....

True (well, mostly true, as not quite all CVC kids take a language). On the other hand, you can do Art as an extra-curric, which can be a good choice for those who want to do everything.

Do you have children at both schools, IHate? That's where it gets really interesting watching the different ways they do things!

Sorry, OP, we're diverting your thread a bit.

Duxford primary is fine, according to friends -- not overwhelmingly brilliant, not at all bad. Always has interesting and imaginative displays of work up, and the outdoor play space is great. It feeds into Sawston VC on the whole (unless you accidentally live in the no-man's-land round the edges that doesn't have priority anywhere, and end up with one child at Sawston VC, one in Saffron Walden County High and one at Melbourn VC...)

The village strikes me as a bit hemmed in by the A505 but may feel very different to those who live there.

Bourn primary is excellent. My dc went there and it was way ahead of other schools in getting children really interested in learning. As far as I know, it's got better and better, and people I know with dc there currently really rate it.
My dc are now both at Comberton. It is big, but I think that is one of it's strengths as it can offer a huge range of extra curricula activities. The school is divided into two halves, so it doesn't feel too daunting. But tbh, I think all the village colleges are pretty good.

Waves at Mrsgrowbag.
The head teacher at Bourn is so lovely. Very accessible.
My kids have collectively had 10 years at Bourn. I will be sad when my dd leaves this summer.
She can't wait to get to comberton.
I do think comberton is a bit of a machine. Churning the results out.
But my ds is doing ok there.
He's a boy and think school is boring but there you go.

we haven't been here for years but long enough to say that cambourne is an outstanding place for what it has to offer. all three/four (soon to be +1) primary schools are great, and i have first hand experience with two of them. the recently opened village college is closely overseen by the comberton village college, but still too early to state that it's on the solid footing.
we also started renting in cambourne when first moved here and we are glad we did. feel free to pm me if any unique questions.

Renting is a good idea until you work out where you would really like to be. There is loads of rental property in Cambourne, and loads going on there for children (and adults!).

I'm another Cambourne-ite - we've just done our application for primary so can't really comment on schools but thought I'd say welcome!

Sheens123 · 03/02/2015 22:31

Thanks magpieC. We need to do application soon for the second round. Not sure how would the school placement affect our kids. I hope they aren't in three different schools.Shock

Do you know when you'll be moving and which schools are likely to have spaces? There are several active fb groups where you might get more insight eg "Cambourne information" and "Cambourne mums and mums to be".

Sheens123 · 05/02/2015 13:45

Thanks magpieC. We're moving at the end of March. Thanks for the fb groups information. Spoken to the council as well.Smile
