Sixth Form in Winchester

My teenager started in September at PS Sixth Form in Winchester. On walking into the economics class, the teacher had put on the whiteboard that "57% of you will FAIL". It is now December and apparently alot of them are doing just that. Surely, such failure is as a result of poor and inadequate teaching?
That's not all, the teachers are so petty and alot of the kids seem really unhappy about it, e.g. not having the right paper/pen/eating a piece of chocolate, you know, silly nonsense - I just think the teachers should get a grip because it's not just economics, it's other subjects too. Has anyone had any similar experiences or gone through PS wishing they hadn't?

Hi, I have two teens at PS, one started the same time as yours and the other is in her final year. I have mixed views on PS but at the end of the day in the subjects my teens chose they do get good results, far exceeding any other local college. Mine haven't experienced nit picking teachers, but they have experienced some which aren't great...and others are. Mixed bag like most schools I suppose. My youngest has friends that went to Barton P and her friends are all getting involved with poor peer groups and they seem to be going through quite big changes in their personalities whereas both of mine have kept good friends that seem to be wanting to achieve and do well. I don't like the pastoral care side of things, only being called into PS for teacher/parent evenings if they perceive there to be a problem and I do feel that some teachers don't really know my youngest yet. But I wouldn't have chosen any other state college based upon the results that they get so I guess we have to take the good with the bad. Hope things have improved for your teen this term.

It's March and I've only just read your post so thank you Anglemouse. My son has got worse !!! Talk about personality changes - I am so struggling with it all ! I am certain that half his probs at College are self-induced. He is a little so-and-so most of the time. His AS's aren't looking good as he dropped one subject, got kicked out of another and that leaves just 2 and one of those is economics !
I was pleased to read that at least someone has managed to keep their offspring on the straight and narrow. I am glad for you that the system works for your family. It's horses for courses don't you think, sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't.
