We are a family of 3 very soon to be 4 looking to move to saxmundham as hubby has new teaching job there. I was just wondering if anyone can tell me what it's like for young families there? I'm scared I will be very lonely Sad also I was just wondering if there were better ways of finding rental properties as rightmove etc doesn't seem to have much! Any advice greatly received! Thanks.

I don't know Saxmundham that well but I think there are quite a few young families there. They are certainly building a lot of new 'family' properties there. I believe there is a childrens centre there. some nice independent shops in the high street plus Tesco and waitrose. If you can drive then you are not far the coast, plus there is a swimming pool at Leiston with a little kiddie pool. Also a train station which can either take you to woodbridge/Ipswich or up the coast to Lowerstoft. Can't help you out with finding rental properties the only way I know is via rightmove.

Thank you gardeningsarah. Moving away is so daunting yet exciting! It's good to know there is a sure start centre.

We moved to Suffolk 12 months ago and have never looked back. We are over the coastal side not far from Woodbridge. It's a great place to raise a family and just so much to do. It will be great!

Thank you for the positive message. Just feeling anxious about leaving everything I know!!

hi there - I live v close to Saxmundham (moved from London about six months ago) and I totally love it. There's so much to do with the kids (who are 5 and 1) and I love the primary school (which isn't in Saxmundham but a few miles away). We rented and are still in our rental before moving to our house later this year - why don't you sign up with the local agents - the main ones around Saxmundham area are Jennie Jones, Flick & Son, Musker McIntyre - am sure there are others. Flick seems to be the biggest.
Do you want to PM me - I can give you tons of local info. Do you actually want to live in Saxmundham or close by?
And there are tons of children's centres - I work FT but my youngest is at groups every day of the week with his nanny and they have an amazing time and they are nearly all free.

Yes I'd love to pm you. It's great that your loving it there! My husband has a new job in saxmundham as a teacher at the free school. We are looking at Saxmundham itself & surrounding areas. I've joined up to 2 of the 3 estate agents you mentioned, so thank you for the other one! They just don't seem to have anything on their books at the moment. We plan to move December time so hopefully something will come up!

Hi everyone, I am new to Mumsnet so thanks for having me.
We currently live in France where we have been for 11 years. Now that my family have moved to Suffolk, just outside Halesworth and we have a three year old boy, we would love to be closer to them. We adore Suffolk as we have spent so much time there visiting family but can you give me an honest opinion on what it is like to live there? My parents rented a house in Southwold when they first went back and we adored all the little shops within walking distance. Now they are in a village and it is beautiful but I worry that we will move from rural France to another rural place but with less sunshine! It looks like there is a lot to do for kids, would you say it is a good place to move with a young family, any help or advice would be so appreciated. Thanksx

Hi SugarSprinkle - I'm Angela, the Local Editor of Mumsnet Suffolk; welcome to the website and to the county! I can understand that it's daunting moving from all you know (where are you coming from?) but there is SO much to do here in Suffolk for children and young families, am sure you won't regret it. I moved here myself nine years ago and have never looked back - it's an idyllic place for kids. Saxmundham is really well placed for touring the rest of the county - in fact you have the best of all worlds as you'll be well placed for the coast nearby with gorgeous seaside towns like Aldeburgh and Southwold (crabbing season starts soon which the kids love), fabulous countryside with lots of forest walks/great for biking and camping like Rendlesham Forest and great historic days out at the castles in Framlingham and Orford. Or you can nip on the train or in the car back down the A12 for shopping and nice cafes in the pretty market town of Woodbridge or try Ipswich if you want the bigger high street shops. Feel free to ask away if you have any other questions and I can also link this conversation to our busy Facebook page which may connect you with more mums in Saxmundham. Good luck with planning your move :) Ax

Thanks also from me Angela, we are so hoping to move back this ear. Come on business, hurry up and sell!

It is so nice to hear there is plenty to do with children as we have so very little to do where we currently live. Thanks again.

Hello all, me and husb and 2 children (18 months and 3 and a half) are moving to Halesworth at the end of this month - like you SugarSprinkle am both excited and daunted! We are coming from London, so it'll be a big change for us, we hope a very good one. Really looking forward to a slower pace, the beautiful coast and countryside and hopefully becoming part of the community - would love to hear from/meet anyone in the Halesworth/local area. Any suggestions as to groups/activities/places to go?
