Hi anushree, and welcome. I've just bought a house in nearby Bournville and know how anxiety-inducing house-buying can be.

You know how busy Bristol Road is, yes? (assume you've viewed it). If you have the glazing to cope with the noise/traffic/sirens, then there are some lovely houses along there. There are plenty of students around. It's very handy for the university/hospitals/city centre/getting out on the M5/M6.

If you have kids, there are some good playgroups in the area, nice schools and lots of places in reach (ThinkTank, Nature Centre, library, Sealife Centre).

Were you having doubts?

Hi. Thanks for your reply.
Yes, I like the house and all the windows are double glazed. Noise should not be a great issue, but I was a little worried about the safety in general because as you said its a studenty area. Though the current owners have been in the house for past 12 years and they say they have never had any issue.

I've not heard anything bad. Maybe try the West Midlands Police website for local policing figures?

Whereabouts is it? The Northfield end or university?

It really depends which part of Bristol Road!
If it's actually Selly Oak proper, Bristol Rd is not an area I'd choose to live in. Do you know Birmingham at all?

anushree · 25/09/2014 14:20

Thanks for all your inputs. The postcode is selly oak because it is more towards the bournville. I have been to the area even in the evenings and found it to be quiet...

If it's more towards the middle park area, then it has a very different feel to the university bit Smile

What are you doing about schooling?
