Moving to Worcester

Hi , my husband has recently got a job at Worcester Royal Hospital so we will be relocating to/ near Worcester in the next few months. I currently work in Bromsgrove. We are living in Wolverhampton at the moment so do know the area a bit.

Anyone got any tips on nice places/ places to avoid in Worcester/ surrounding area? Ideally would like to be near good nursery + primary school as my son is 18 months.

Any help much appreciated- thank you!

Hi Hannah. Have you looked at Droitwich at all? Handy for both places of work and a real mix of different schools from village to large primaries.

I originally hail from wolves too (perton)

The main family areas are st johns where I am. St Peters. Claines, barbourne ( v nice but pricey) wardon gives you loads for your money.

What sort of house are you looking for?

There are plenty of good school and nursery's too depending on where you choose.

Thanks for the ideas!
I have heard good things about Droitwich before but I think we will probably stick to Worcester or just outside as my job in Bromsgrove is only temporary and my husband's new job is a permanent position.

In terms of type of house, probably a detached "family" house with a garden. We are coming down this weekend to start looking at a few houses but new job doesn't start til Feb so not too rushed. mrsbucketxox- are there are schools/ nurseries in St John's you would recommend?

Local schools in st johns are pitmaston, or Oldbury park, my little boy is in a nearby village school rushwick primary. Its smaller than the other two which suits my ds.

My little girl is in an outstanding nursery 5 mins from me in dines green ( area is really run down but the nursery is great) st johns has lots of older housing stock its , ore likely to be a victorian terrace than detached and modern. Im in a bunch of new builds just outside but there isnt any for sale atm. Im planning to move soon as its just not rural enough.

If you want a detached home look at st peters, or warndon. Lots of what you would call executive homes at ok prices.

If your after big grand type houses bath road or barbourne is where you need to be looking st peters square is stunning very large homes.

I'm in St John's and really recommend it as a place to bring up children. A real mix of people and a good local shopping area make it a real community. Also just a 10 minute walk into city centre. My son is in yr1 at Pitmaston and loves it. It's a fab school but big! Only problem with St John's is you have to cross the river to get to the hospital so can be a long commute. Warndon Villages is very convenient for the hospital but new and (imo) soulless. Hope you find something soon. Worcester is a good place to live.

Thank you so much for all the advice. We are going down next week to look at some houses and different areas so fingers crossed will be able to make some decisions after that!
