To buy or not to buy in Queens park/ Crosshill

Hi,

my husband and I have found a ground floor flat which we love in the south side. However, we are feeling a bit suspicious as it was within budget and it has everything we have been looking for which normally is not within our budget.

The flat is on Queen Mary Avenue and we started asking friends and family if they know the area. A few friends stay in Shawlands and says it is absolutely fine but others have been telling us not to buy in this area as Govanhill right behind us has very bad reputation.

Do you lovely women have any knowledge about this area and would you feel comfortable buying there. Your input would mean a lot.

Thanks,
Linn

I'd have said fine: you're only one street back from Queens Drive, where dh used to live (and I have friends further along the road). You're in the catchment for a good secondary (if you're thinking that far ahead) although I don't know what the catchment primary is

Perhaps it's because of prejudice and not reality are the friends who are not so sure from the West End? Wink. Even bits of Govanhill are fine.

I used to live in Shawlands and now live in Pollokshields (bits of which also have "poor" reputations but all of which I am comfortable in) Having said that, I live in "West" Pollokshields, but ds went to primary school in East Pollokshields - but I am comfortable walking through Pollokshields late at night from Pollokshields East train station, which is a good barometer.

I wouldn't mind living there. Good facilities etc nearby. Lovely park etc.
