I am looking for a nursery which takes babies during term- time only. I would be grateful if you have any experience or know of any nurseries.
Thanks a lot!

baby unicorns - it is fab (but still expensive) or any of the council run nurseries - they are also great (depending upon age of child and location). Not sure about Millington road but they are lovely too.

thanks a lot for your reply. I just checked their websites but it seems that they only take kids from 2 years old. I am looking for a nursery for a 8 months old.

I don't know of any nurseries that are open in term time only unless they operate as a preschool. There are only two or three preschools that take two years olds in Cambridge: homerton and queen Emma. They're both so full that they've closed their waiting lists.
If you really want term time only your only option may be to go with a childminder until the term after he turns three

Yes, most nurseries I know will only do term time only for children on their 15 funded hours I.e. from the term after they are three. It makes no sense for them to offer it to younger children - there is so much pressure on spaces they would rather give the place to someone who will pay fees all year round.

Childminders may be more flexible...?

Where are you? DD's nursery in Melbourn does this, but obviously is no use if you aren't near here.

I seem to remember The Wendy House in Impington might do term time, but I'm not sure if that's just for older children

Thanks a lot for all your replies. We live in Cambridge. I will visit the Wendy House and The Baby Unicorns. A childminder might also be a good idea. The due date is only in December but I was told that it may be useful to already put our name down for next autumn.

Hi, my advice would be to look into childminders too, I'm a childminder and would usually offer full rates paid in term time then a reduced retainer to keep the place open in the holidays, dates of holiday etc can be agreed individually. Feel free to PM me, and congratulations in advance on your new little one! :-)

I just discovered Little Hands in Newton has places - and it has outstanding rating on Ofsted. I see they have branches elsewhere. I tihnk they are term time only too (my older DC is at school so was looking for termtime care for the younger one). In the end though I am actually though thinking of going down a nanny route myself as sadly the round trip from nursery to town for school is too much of a commute but wanted to share it as finding a nursery in Cambridge is depressingly difficult and I have no affiliation to them so cannot vouch but impressed by Ofsted report (for what that is worth).
