Specifically:

St Werburgh's Park
Sefton Park infants
St Barbabas C of E
Glenfrome Primary

Any others around St Werburgh's?

Does/did anyone have children at any of these schools? Would you/not recommend?

We're most likely to be accepted for St Werburgh's as it's our closest school. I heard some not great things about it from someone who moved their child due to lack of focus on kids who aren't disruptive in class, but this is a good few years ago. I'm hoping it's better now?

my kids (2, going to be 3) go to St Werburghs. They either like it/love it (KS2 involves took much writing apparently). My eldest is abnormally academic for his age (he is one of the youngest in his class) but the school have given him 'extra support' in subjects such as maths to further his interest, and also extra support in PE- which he is at the opposite end of the scale with Grin. He's very quiet and there are disruptive kids but I've never noticed any lack of attention (and I've been present helping out in various classes/activities). Middle child has always got on well- again he's not disruptive but not academic and I'm impressed at his intellectual development. The head is really, really good and I like her attitude. I've been impressed by the school after selecting it purely because it was the only one they would get into!! There is a good mix, friendly parents, good focus on other things rather than academic. I know people who have kids at the other schools and they are all happy with them too. Sefton Park is rather middle class though and the St Werbs people I know that have kids there say the parents are 'nice enough' but they do feel a bit different...like 'what are you doing at our school' and it is completely different to the others in terms of ethnic mix. E.g. its a bit white ethnocentric. Have a look around them all. I think you'd be alright with any of them to be honest though.

I have children at sefton park who are doing well . They've had brilliant opportunities and the school seems
To have an ethos that is very child led and is more creative than other schools I looked at (although I didn't look at any of the others on your list). I have no qualms about the education and am very impressed with it but the school is a bit poor at communication which can be frustrating although they are working on trying to resolve this at the moment .

It can seem middle class but I've found all of the parents really friendly and actually people from
A wide range of backgrounds / countries/ cultures etc which is really nice

I know people with kids at Sefton Park School. On the plus side it is a very friendly school which has a strong emphasis on community. On the minus side it is somewhat chaotic (frequent complaints about lack of information for example) and there is less emphasis on helping each child reach their full potential than you might find in other schools.

Isn't there a new primary next year opening on Fairlawn Road? Might be worth looking into if you are St Werburgh's / Sefton Park area.

Our experience at sefton park was very good. Dd1 who is fairly average academically achieved all level 5s for her SATs and think dd2 likely to achieve the same but maybe a level 6 too. Very little pressure but the children do very well anyway. I think its a very different approach to bishop road, so depends what you like.

Curious to hear more as DS is likely to be going to St Werburghs in a couple of years. I am more concerned about his social development than academic tbh - and particularly concerned about excessive homework (I don't believe primary age kids should be doing homework anyway).

@stwerbsgeekymama Sefton Park School sounds ideal in that case. A lot of people with similar views are very happy there.

Thanks emilycl, to be honest would never have considered them without this thread as I'd assume they'd be too far away.
