Rough play date anyone?

This may sound strange but if there are any mums out there experiencing the same thing and want to organise a play date I would be very keen.

My DS is 16m and has been very rough with other babies for the past 3 months since he has started walking. He is quite big for his age. Typical behaviour is pulling others to the ground, hair pulling, squeezing, pulling clothes and biting. I have been told this is a phase that will pass but can last until 2.5-3 years. I always shadow him for prevention and intervention but he is very strong and quick and sometimes attacks. I am consistent, always firmly tell him 'no' and try to comfort the victim when possible. Nothing has changed and someone suggested avoiding play group etc until the phase passes. I don't really want to keep him isolated for the next year as he needs to learn and this early peer socialisation is very important. I am a first time mum.

My regular play date mums are understanding and realise their time may be yet to come but it is so difficult where their LOs are so good but end up getting hurt. Also it is very stressful for me constantly shadowing a very fast toddler, I don't really even get a chance to speak with the other mums.

Anyway if there is anyone else experiencing something similar and would like to meet up with an understanding, supportive, non judgemental mother and a toddler who can handle his own then please message me. I am in Wimbledon but can travel.

Hi new2rp

Sounds as if your DS needs a good 'rough and tumble' environment! Have you tried some of Merton's softplay centres? Some of which have pre-schooler weekly activities that might help your DS to channel some of his energy.

You may be interested in starting a Mumsnet Merton group - for parents with pre-schooler DCs - that focuses on meet-ups in venues where the little ones can let off some steam - and you manage to get some Brew, Cake and chat Wink.

Good luck!

Hi new2rp

You could also put a post in the 'active' meet-ups to ask if any of those Mumsnetters have (a) similarly aged DC(s) who would like to meet over the summer holidays and beyond?
