Hello everyone :-) grateful for any advice and wisdom!

I am a single mum just relocated here, we live near the back of the train station. My dc has high functioning autism and some social and behavioural problems, I have rung round local schools but got no joy, they just told me to go through the council and two said flat out they don't support asd which I think surely can't be true, surely they just need to apply for extra provisions?? We moved to escape a bad situation so it was pretty short notice. Not ideal I know. Are there any other schools I missed? What are these schools' reputations like? My dc thrives where people understand and have experience with their condition and do not judge but are firm and fair.

Many many thanks for any replies!! I'm panicking a bit :-(

Basically need advice on which of the schools above I should put as my first choice second n third for dc please - can't get much from websites! I have the form from the council. they are all about equal distance.

Hi
I'm afraid I don't know anything about Knavesmire or Scarcroft, but St. Paul's is tiny and very unlikely to have space. We live very near and have tried twice to get DD in there (I had to continue driving her across the city to school).

Have you looked at Acomb Primary or St. Barnabas? And sorry if this is inappropriate for your DC, but have you looked at the Hob Moor Federation?

Unfortunately, all admissions are handled by the council and the schools don't seem to have any wiggle room. If you speak to the people in the council office they might be able to give you advice on where would be best. By the way, don't worry about the short notice, the council will only allocate space 20 school days before you need it, so we didn't find out until the last week of term that DD had got a place in a new school.
Good luck with your search.

Thanks so much for your advice - that is all very helpful to know! I hadn't considered those two but will look into them! I hope we don't end up getting one too far away as I don't drive :-s my dc is very high functioning so has done ok in main steam so far but does need a lot of extra supper..

Have you had any joy in getting a school place?

Hope you got somewhere you're happy with. if not have you looked at Fishergate? they are brilliant with kids who need that little bit extra.
