My husband and i and two children are thinking of moving to high wycombe from SE London.

High wycombe(of all the places we have looked) seems to suit our budget for what we want.

I'd love a detached 4 bedroom place with a kitchen diner a large garden and great schools nearby.

Unfortunately I hear terrible things aboutivi g in high wycombe. Why? Is it that bad? Should I ignore what I read?

What's it like to live on Shelley Road?

Can you easily walk to the station? Or get a bus?

In need of help.
Overwhelmed house hunter.

School catchment areas! How do you know which school your kids will be allocated?

Hi
Only just started posting on Mumsnet so a bit new to this and only just seen your message.

I've lived in HW for over 30 years (apart from Uni stint) and it does get some bad press. It really isn't that bad, has the odd areas which are a bit dodgy but doesn't everywhere? Nice parks, reasonable shops, easy transport links and close proximity to London. Don't know what you've heard but happy to answer any questions.

Shelley Road has always seemed nice to me, all of that little estate of Marlow Hill is nice. It is a very steep hill but perfectly plausible to walk to the station from there, maybe take 25 mins?

As for school catchments, Bucks CC publish these on their website

www.buckscc.gov.uk/education/schools/admissions-and-moving-school/catchment-areas/catchment-area-maps/

Keep scrolling to the bottom and then select the relevant map. Would have thought Shelley Road in catchment for WHS or JHGS (selective schools) and probably High Wycombe CofE? Has an odd location next to hospital but I've always heard good things about it (have been teaching for 10 years).

Hope this has helped! Good luck with the house hunting ?
