Hi everyone,

I´d really, really appreciate some local advice. I live in Glasgow but am not from around here and I am struggling to find a solution. Maybe somebody has had a similar dilema?

I´m expecting twins in September/ October and they´ll be delivered in the southern general. We live in the West End and we don´t have a car. I want to buy some car seats in order to be able to travel in taxis whenever necessary (emergencies/ going to the hospital or airport...as my partner is Spanish and we´ll be visiting his family). I don´t drive so I´m not very clued up, and although I understand that it´s not obligatory to use a car seat in a taxi, I want to.

I´m a bit lost as to which car seats to buy for newborns, as I understand that each car requires a particular model and that each taxi driver drives a different type of car?!

Hmmmmmm...any ideas would be greatly greatly appreciated!

Many thanks!

Hi Billa, hopefully some Glasgow Mumsnetters will be along shortly to offer some advice, but in the meantime check out these Mumsnet reviews: www.mumsnet.com/reviews/on-the-move/baby-car-seats-from-birth

I don't think that each car needs a different model - we certainly didn't need a Suzuki-specific car seat when we bought ours! For what it's worth, we got the Max-cosi Cabriofix, and it was fine. We got it with the isofix base, but you won't want that if you're moving it in and out of cars.

Good luck!

You could go for a travel system pram which comes with compatible car seats which u click on and off the chassis. Means if u r travelling with them u can get babies out of taxi still in their seats, click them onto frame, and go. I see a lot of people with twins/close siblings using the out n about nipper or the baby jogger city mini doubles, I know the singles of both of those r car seat compatible so u could check if the doubles are?

Definitely I would consider making your car seats compatible with your pram if that doesn't restrict your pram choice too much.
God knows how u will get around with two car seats plus children when they r out of the infant seats... U will be fine if u either have help, or are making a door to door journey..

Oops congrats on your twins!

Also, we didn't have a car till my dd was over 1 and we definitely got a good bit of use out of our car seat. I would say make sure it fits with the seat belt, not with only isofix, and doesn't require a separate base.

I round check with hospital and phone a good taxi firm. Hospital often hire out car seats

Cheers everyone!!

I´ve not been able to get back on here since writing, but it´s been great to get all your advice just now, thanks a million!

I´ve actually taken a few taxis this week...starting to get too heavy to get places, especially with all the extra walking due to the Commonwealth games bus diversions, etc (not that I´m complaining, am loving the buzz about the city)...so I´ve had the opportunity to ask a few drivers and they all have said the same thing...that more or less any carseat will do (not the isofix), and that some fit better tan others depending on the match...so we´ve gone ahead and bought some basic ones from mothercare.

thanks again, and, happy summer!!
