Moving to littleport?

I wondered whether anyone had an opinion on littleport? I have concerns about its reputation and the two schools don't have great ofsted reports. Is it a good place to raise a child. My son is 5 and we are looking to move out of London soon and considering how far our budget will stretch.

We are looking for somewhere we can settle down but still do a daily commute to london.

Littleport is very quiet. Have you considered Ely instead? Much prettier and a bit more going on. Still relatively cheap and on London line

I wouldn't move to Littleport personally. Much better places to live in Cambs - where abouts are you commuting to? It makes a difference re trainline.

Many thanks for replies. Commuting into London on a daily basis with a bike too. I do love Ely but I'm now thinking of St. Neots or Huntingdon or surrounding villages as the line seems faster and trains more frequent.

I gave also been keeping an eye on the Ely villages as the schools seem to be quite good. It's a shame littleport is a no no as money goes so much further.

IMO, Ely is much nicer than Huntingdon or St Neots. But the commute to London is longer. It has a lot more going for it, so you would have to weigh up if it's worth the longer journey. If I had to choose, I'd go for Ely over Hunts/St Neots and put up with more travelling. But that's a decision only you can make.

Many thanks for that.....our budget is 250 k max so I will keep looking with Ely......I have been keeping an eye on the surrounding villages too but that would add more travel time. My partner is keen to cycle to station and take bike on train although I would imagine those trains are packed during commute time.

Bikes on trains in rush hour are usually banned. I have a friend who commutes to London and who keeps a second bike at Kings Cross to cycle to his office. The cost of a second bike pays for itself in saved tube fares very quickly!

We live in one of the villages outside Huntingdon. V pretty & whilst I like Ely itself it takes ages to get anywhere from there. ( train & road). If you want to cycle - have you looked at Brampton? Easy cycle into Huntingdon. We live in one of the villages & is a 10 min drive (ish) to the station. Go there everyday!

You can take folding bikes on the train
Waterbeach might be an option?
Near cambridge so one of you might be able to get a job there?

Brampton a lovely village I'm not sure what you would get for your 250 in terms of size, parts of the village are expensive. There's Stukeley Meadows & the Hinchinbrook estate in easy walking/cycling distance of the huntingson station if your considering Huntingdon.
