Need a nursery between commons

Hi all,
Touching a lot of wood, we will be moving BTC in August. It means my 3 year old will have to leave her state nursery where we live. I assume I don't have a cat in hell's chance of a state place locally - can anyone recommend private options? I only want a morning each day. Will be applying for state primaries. Thank you for any ideas. Smile

You might manage to get a state place - it's always worth asking the council anyway

Sparkies & Nightingale Montessori run from St Luke's church
There is also a nursery opposite the library at Chatham Hall

Are you after a day-care type nursery or a nursery school (i.e half day sessions).

Mouse House and Mouse Hole on Mallison Road are very popular but might be tough to get in to on short notice. Marmalade Cat on Altenburg Gardens is very good but again I think there is a waiting list.

There is a new one about to open on Bennerley Road which might be worth a look as you'll be more likely to get a spot - I think it is imaginatively titled Bennerley House.

Thank you both for suggestions. I just want to replicate what she gets at the moment - we drop her off at about 915 and collect her before lunch, every day. Will check out all your ideas. Thank you.

Depending where exactly you will move BTC, it is worth looking at Lochinvar Preschool - on Oldridge Rd (housed within the premises of Alderbrook School). My youngest went there for 2 years and we were very happy with it. It is a small setting (approx. 20 children in capacity) but no more than 10 children per either morning or afternoon session. In particular, I highly recommend the staff - very low turnover (same 4 ladies have been with the school for more than 8 years), very caring with the little ones, tons of activities (child-led or more structured) and plenty of school outings. They take children from 2 years old until Reception age. Hours are usually 9:15 to 3pm term time, and they do offer to open during school holidays as well, if there are enough takers.

State: if you're in catchment for BTC state primaries ie Honeywell or Belleville then you might well also get a place at Honeywell or Belleville nursery as they are also admitted on distance (after siblings). Worth investigating first.

Private: As well as the ones mentioned above, have a look at Broomwood Montessori - run in Broomwood Methodist Church Hall. I think most of their kids go on to the BTC state schools. Some others to check out: Noah's Ark, Alphabet, Chestnut Grove Montessori, Marmalade Bear and Marmalade Caterpillar.

Wandsworth schools don't really have catchment areas proper. The distances for admissions can vary quite drastically each year (one almost halved from last year to this while another tripled Confused).

We have the latest figures based on the places just allocated here which should give you some idea - just remember they can change a lot quite quickly.

Just had a squiz and I wonder where the other site got its info. When I google the only place that gives the actual admissions distances for this year's entry is here. Odd.

Yes, this site was definitely the first to get the up to date info up - which I was really grateful for a few weeks back as we are working out which roads to target with our next move.

Hope it works out for you Paloma12.

MumsnetWandsworth

There again- at the off, leaving all others trailing in her wake/ hanging onto her coat tails (choose your metaphor) or simply furiously copying.

There are a few loons on your talk boards though aren't there?

minipie · 17/06/2014 20:44

yep when I said "in catchment" i should have said "close enough to be admitted on distance"

I always seem to miss the loony posts dammit Grin

audrey01 · 18/06/2014 14:58

i missed that too - what was the offensive post?

LocalEditorWandsworth · 18/06/2014 18:14

Hi - the deleted post wasn't 'loony' or 'offensive' - nothing that interesting I'm afraid - just spam.
