Moving to St Neots

Hi, DH and I are thinking of a move to St Neots from London but don't know anything about it. We have one DD who is 4.5 months old so need to be somewhere with good nursery and school. Can anyone advise? We've heard really mixed things and will obviously come and look ourselves but wondered if there are some opinions out there already?
Thank you

Hi,
I'm Huntington & don't get to St Neots that much.
I think its classed as up and coming.
A cinema has just opened & there's talk of a 2nd swimming pool. Its rated highly as a great food place & there plenty of pubs & restaurants. My brothers went to the secondary school & they had positive experiences.

I'm going to put your request on the Facebook page

I work in St Neots, so whilst I know it I'm not that familiar! There's an outstanding nursery (treetops) that I can see from my office. No idea about schools. I'd be happy to move here tbh. Nice size town centre and close enough to 'bigger' towns. Some pretty villagey areas as well as the 'new' housing (Loves Farm).

This is really really helpful, thank you. We are taking a look tomorrow so will see how it goes.

I've heard bad things about the junior school but I guess things could improve by the time we need one.

Hiya
I love the area,
There are many schools here, so it depends on where you are moving too in St Neots and that includes 2 secondary schools!
There are lots of small villages around the town, where you can have the joys of a quiet country life, with the hustle and bustle of a market town.
You are within close travel to London (by car and by train) and also are close to larger shopping areas like Cambridge and Peterborough.
St Neots has a lot of smaller independent shops, but has now got a cinema, bowling alley and lots of great places to eat.
It has a lot to do for kids and if you want the more wider found shops then head to Huntingdon (which has a lot to offer without the chaos of city shopping).
If you are looking at a country life or a more modern complex living then St Neots does offer both. we live in a tiny village just outside of St Neots and have loved it for many years. Also not heard bad things about the schools, appart from the normal gripes and grizzles that you would normally have within a community of different ideas.
So Personally I would say "Go for it" but know what type of living you really want as this will help you narrow down the area you live in for sure.

When you get up here, you must come along to a free trial class at Music for Little People www.mflp.co.uk - there are classes just up the road on Fridays in BUCKDEN which is incidentally a lovely village with a fabulous school, or you could attend Kimbolton our closest private school.

Hi. My husband and I are also looking at moving to St Neots from the Reading area. We have spotted a few houses in Southoe that look pretty promising. Does anyone know anything about the village please? How easy is it to get to St Neots station? DH works in London. What are the schools/pre-schools in the area like - we have a 7 and 4 year old. Is there plenty of stuff to do? One of the things I am most worried about is going from full time work to potentially being a SAHM and meeting new people etc.

Sorry for the hijack Helskhan. Perhaps we could meet up if we both make the move!

The trains are frequent & you should get a seat in the morning

KarenMFLP · 27/07/2014 13:26

I wouldn't recommend Southoe - it's difficult to get in and out of the village from the A1. Better to go to Eaton Socon area of St Neots with Crosshall School, or better still Buckden where I live!

We moved from hayes middlesex to st.neots 8 months ago and love it... we got fed up with the rat race of london and have no regrets moving here.
