Hi,

I have just been offered a job in and around Norwich with some days at UEA and will be moving August/September time with husband and 2 year old.
I live in a very central part of London, lovely neighbors, good community feel (people look out for one another and relatively safe for London) and lots of activities for parents and community (e.g. summer fair). I am looking for somewhere like this but in Norwich Ideally within the A140 and A1402 (but maybe just outside).Nothing further than Cringleford. My husband does not drive!!

I see that the GT is a nice area but what about the other areas in Norwich?

Please help :-)

Eaton is lovely :-)

Hey,

Thank you. Do you know of any good nurseries/primary school near Eaton (walking distance). I had a look at the UEA nursery but not sure it was for us.

I really liked Thorpe Langley prep school. So am looking at area around Thorpe st andrew. What is that area like?

:-)

Thorpe St Andrew is nice, but on the wrong side of the city for the UEA. Eaton and Cringleford are very nice, and there are some lovely houses up the Newmarket road (A11) with good bus links. The Golden Triangle may suit your needs too - have a look around the Unthank road area.

I've been in the Golden Triangle for nearly 4 years and love it. Lovely people, nice parks, very easy access to nice bits of Norwich city centre, great schools, on the best bus routes to/from UEA ( my H works at UEA too and does not drive)

Only downside is the sometimes roudy student population (some streets are better than others) and limited housing stock--mostly terraces but they move quickly when the for sale/to let signs are posted.

What is UAE? I'm about to move to Norwich next month with my family (from London) and need to get up to speed on the lingo! ;)

MatriarchalDictatorship · 26/06/2014 11:33

The UEA is the University of East Anglia. You will also hear about the N&N or NNUH which is the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital. Also Costessey is pronounced Cossey, Taverham is Taveram, Postwick is Pozick, Hapisburgh is Hazebrough, Wymondham is Wyndum and Hellesdon is Hellsdon.

Ha! Thanks matriarchal! Very helpful. ;)

UAE is United Arab Emirates I think. UEA is the University of East Anglia. It is a mistake lots of people make :)

Cringleford itself is nice (but pricey). Eaton is good. Lots of people from UEA live in the Threescore area (big new development) - there is also a big new development in the Cringleford/hospital area. Thorpe is nice - but further from UEA.

Quite good bus services in Norwich (I think - certainly lots of them !).

MatriarchalDictatorship · 27/06/2014 20:04

and plenty of park and rides too :)

Hi, I live in the G T area and am on mat leave from the UEA. I have a 20 month old and a 6 month old. I would love to find someone to nanny share with.

Halfawife · 09/08/2014 23:52

I've just settled in Eaton (renting now until I buy) with my two girls, 5 and 3 years. It seems like a nice neighbourhood.

However does anyone know where I can find after school childcare (hopefully through word of mouth) from 3.20pm-5.30pm for a few nights a week? I work FT in the city and need someone to pick the girls up and bring them home for dinner. I don't want to do after school clubs.

Anyone know anyone who might be interested or where I can begin my search?

EmleyMoor · 15/08/2014 23:07

Hi Halfawife

Have you looked at Little Angels? They do lots of variations of childcare and I know a few of the parents at my daughter's school use them for a range of things.

Worth checking out.
