Cardiff Nurseries

Hi all, I'm looking for info/recommendations on nurseries in Cardiff. I'm looking for a partime place for my very attached 9 month old. He's a terrible napper who will only feed to sleep and then sleep in my arms, and is going through the usual separations anxieties, so I'd like somewhere he'll get lots of comfort and cuddles. I'd like any opinions on nurseries in Cardiff, those that are good and any to avoid. Thanks

I am so fussy when it comes to my daughter and have chosen Nazareth House nursery. it is wondering and surrounded by so much greenery! the staff are wonderful, I witnessed a toddler diving on one member during my first visit and she happily gave him a cuddle and fussed over him :) it was nice to see! I was worried that my daughter wouldn't settle in (she is 18months old) but they kept her while I looked around and upon finishing my tour she refused to leave! Plus the nursery isn't run for profile so is reasonably cheap childcare and they have a lot of outings in order to stimulate the children's development :)

Acorns Nursery in Roath at Oakfield Street and Partridge Road are lovely.

The staff are so warm towards the children, and I found they have quite a good balance between free play with some structure thrown in - I've popped in occasionally unexpectedly and seen the staff engaging them in little tea parties in the garden etc. The atmosphere inside is very happy and the children enjoy themselves and are never bored. I highly recomment going for a visit and seeing for yourself.

They do lots of finger-painting, art and crafts, and cooking - the kids are always taking things home that they've made - and both buildings (one is more for babies/toddlers, while the other is pre-schoolers) are quite 'homely' and nice decorated (baby Acorns has a separate, cosy looking nap room with cots and soft lit lamps etc). It's well resourced, and set in a leafy residential street. The gardens are nicely tended, but the staff also take them to Penylan playground sometimes when the weather is nice. When the children get older they go to the bigger Acorns which is a similar building but the acitivities are more suited to pre-schoolers. They have a Forest School in the garden - think Tipi reading tent, toasting marshmallows, bug-hunts!

They also do a nice job of preparing for school with libary books to take home once a week, and do a few more 'school' like activities. The summer that they leave they do a 'Graduation' ceremony with tiny gowns and certificates and the children put on a little show for the parents. They also give the children their files from when they started - filled with all their photos from babyhood - activity records, notes. Dd had a wonderful time there a few years ago, and I couldn't have been happier with our experience.
