Which school? - pupils rode away from cycle accident

I was cycling along the Milton Rd cycleway/footpath this morning with my 18 month old daughter on the way to nursery. Just after the big roundabout where it meets the A1134 just before the little row of shops two girls on their bikes approached from the opposite way, riding two abreast. I pulled as far to the left as possible but the girls made no effort to move over, to avoid a collision I ended up clipping my handle bar on a wheelie bin causing my bike to topple over. My daughter was luckily unhurt but quite shaken. The girls on the bikes stopped about five metres down the road to look back. They didn't offer any assistance or come back to see if we were ok. It looked to me as if one of them took her mobile phone out to take a photo.

They were in school uniform, which I think was a green and white tartan skirt, with white shirts and maroon cardigans. I know I will not be able to id the girls, but I would like to contact the school and ask that their pupils show more care with their cycling...

Anyone know which school this is? The girls looked around 13ish to me - but I guess may have been younger and in primary school.

Tartan skirts like a kilt? Sounds quite a smart uniform.
Sorry can't help though.
Hope you are ok.

Poor you - glad you are shaken but unhurt. Unfortunately I can only suggest that you phone round local schools and ask.

rebeccamg · 06/06/2014 21:08

Oh no! That must have so scary for you and your little one.
Found this
en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_schools_in_Cambridgeshire

You could look at the ones they were heading in the direction of?

GrendelsMinim · 06/06/2014 21:28

The tartan skirts sound like St Mary's? But they don't have maroon cardigans.

NewtoCambridge · 06/06/2014 22:27

Hope you are all OK. The nearest secondary is Chesterton Village College, but it doesn't sound like their uniform, I drive past the school most days when they are all going in

ladygracie · 06/06/2014 22:31

That is definitely not the Chesterton uniform. I can't think of where it could be but am wracking my brains as the uniform sounds familiar. I'm so sorry that this happened, how upsetting for you. A similar thing happened to my daughter this week but she doesn't think that the person realised they had knocked her off. She was quite shaken up too.

There is no such school as Chesterton Village College. Chesterton Community College would be nearest school but wouldn't have tartan skirts. St Mary's has a blue-ish tartan skirt, and I think St Faith's might do too but they only go up to 13, so you'd need to be sure these girls weren't older. Were you heading ouyt of Cambridge or into it? What is the new Manor/North Cambridge Academy uniform like?

WilderRose · 09/06/2014 19:22

Plain black skirt or trousers for NCA. No tartan.

DyeInTheEar · 09/06/2014 19:26

That could be St. John's - don't they tartan kilt style skirts, white shirts and red cardigans.

I've looked on website but can't see photos.

I think you are being a little unreasonable in expecting them to stop. They turned round to check you are ok. teenagers/kids are not adults.. they do not have the life experience (brain development) to understand that is the socially acceptable think to do. What you have gainned by them coming back? Was the accident their fault?

DyeInTheEar · 09/06/2014 22:31

If they were from St John's they will be under 13.

birdbrained · 10/06/2014 22:34

Thanks for your help everyone, cycling the same route this morning I didn't see anyone wearing a uniform that came even close to what I remembered - which makes me think I was mistaken. Given I can't recall accurately what they were wearing and I'm over the initial shock I won't follow it up. Will be cycling even more defensively in future though!i do think teenagers have enough brain development to realise that knocking a mum and toddler off a bike is not socially acceptable however...

St Johns and St Mary's both have kilts. How old (roughly) were the girls? St Johns is a Prep school so only goes up to 13, whereas St Mary's goes up to 16. If they looked like they were 14+ then probably St Mary's.
