Moving to St Albans

Hi there, Hoping for some advice!

We're moving to St Albans this summer with my 3 year old and baby, coming from the US. Was hoping for some advice from local parents on
a) which areas of St Albans you'd recommend to live with a toddler?
b) does anyone know of a nursery they'd recommend (maybe your child attends/you work at) which might have a place a few days a week in September for a 3 year old?

I have an aunt and friend without kids in St Albans so though I know the town a little I'm not sure where's best to be with small children. I know I'm so late in nursery hunting and have been in touch with Herts council but was hoping someone out there might have an idea/insider knowledge that will save me calling every nursery in St Albans from the US :) thanks in advance for any advice!

Imogen

There is a Facebook group called St. Albans mums. If you join that you might get a few more responses than you have had here? I'm in St. Albans, but kids are older now, so not sure what the most up to date nursery advice would be.

The 'best' place to live in St.A is city centre (but not cheap buying or renting). You have access to all groups than run from town centre - i.e music classes at the Maltings, rhyme time and story time at the library, drop in toddler groups etc and Westminster Lodge for swimming and classes.

The best nursery in St.A, without a doubt, is Mount Carmel Kindergarten. They are hugely popular though so I doubt you would get in this late, most register the year before (at least). Google them and search for them on here - it won't help to drop them a line and explain your situation in case a space does become available.

Google NCT St Albans Yahoo Group and request to join. That's a network for local parents and very helpful, any questions you have will receive lots of responses.

Good luck with your move - St.Albans is a wonderful place to bring up children and to live in, I'm sure you'll be very happy here.

sorry meant to say - it will help, not won't help, at the end of the second para! evidently way past my bedtime!
