Looking for any bumps/new mums in the Bury St Edmunds area

Hi all,

I feel like I'm repeating myself as this is the third posting I've put up here on the internet...

I've just been in Bury (and the UK) for about month, originally come from suffolk but haven't lived here for over 10 years. I have looked at baby and bump groups but the whole thing is head spinning and really I'm not sure I want to become a social butterfly. I'm 32 years old, 6 months along with our first, currently wrapping up my self-employment (which takes all of... oh I dunno... 3 hours a week?) and the other half is a chef so there's lots of 'me' time which normally amounts to me climbing walls :)

I don't have a car, been forbidden from riding my bike (normally I wouldn't sand being told what to do but I'm very accident prone) and I'm bunkered up at the edge of Barton estate with too much time on my hands.

Is there anyone out there that would like a cuppa and a chat?

Hi there Spenky

I have RTed your thread and hopefully we'll get some peeps responding. Welcome to BSE by the way!

LESuffolk&Norfolk · 26/05/2014 18:05

This Facebook page is set up for local parents too -

Here it is.

Nic (Editor of Mumsnet Suffolk).

spenky · 26/05/2014 22:14

Hi Nic, let's hope. I don't actually have Facebook but thanks... ;)

It might be an idea to set up a small FB profile so you can access local groups. A lot of local parents have private groups you can join and they really are a mine of information. I'll add a FB link to this thread too.

The site talk is slowly getting going- it is better than it was a few months ago but it might take a little while.

Hi there, I'm not a new mum but I'd thoroughly recommend the local Children's Centres. Bury Library has one which is right opposite the main bus station. You can just pop in and read books or ask questions and get more involved with activities, really can be suited to just what level of interaction you want.
I have a friend in Thurston with a 6 mth old who would happily chat with you but she's not on MN, you can email Laura on [email protected]
Hope that helps Smile

Spenky,

Hi I take it your on the Great Barton estate. I'm not a new mum but have a 3 and 6 year old and am a member of a local group who meet up locally on the Morton hall Estate with children and babies of different ages. If you'd be interested in joining us then please PM me, I could also point you to some of the local toddler groups. The children center is very good although a bit of a trek into town without transport.

The bumps and babies group is very friendly the NCT one meet's of a Thursday at the Picture house in town. I'll have to check the time as I can't remember it right now.

I agree with Marie - get in contact with NCT local branch about coffee mornings and bumps and babies at picture house on thurs, think its 10-12 and then you can see the film after (with baby too if you want!). I was new here a few years ago like you and have made some wonderful friends through these groups ;o)
out of interest ...do you have a 6month old or are you 6months pregnant?
Congrats either way!

Debbie

Hi djwillis and Marie,

yep, I'm in the Barton estate and I'm 6 months pregnant, not with a 6 month old ;) I've heard about the nct group...

I'm interested in the Moreton hall group Marie. I'll PM you.

But i also stand by my original statement - it's not that i don't know about groups, it's just I'm more interested in less overwhelming meet up with large groups of people :/

The Abbeygate PictureHouse is wonderful definitely recommend attending the sessions there.

MigGril · 28/05/2014 17:53

The nice thing about the Morton hall group is we are a coffee morning group who meet in each others homes so not as big as a toddler group. Sometimes you'll only get a few people there other week's are busier. But you could certainly meet one or two of us first if it would make you feel more comfortable. I'd be up to meet for coffee.

Lisa2607 · 30/05/2014 08:19

Hi Spenky

I live up on moreton hall and have a 2 1/2 yer old daughter. I work part time and am around on Wednesdays and Fridays if you ever want to meet up for a coffee, know what you mean about all the different groups being quite overwhelming! Thanks Lisa

rachelpryor · 02/06/2014 20:46

I'm 30 and fairly new to the area as well. I don't work, and have a six month old daughter. We go out for tea and a walk in Abbey Gardens nearly every day! I'd love to meet up if you're interested.

spenky · 04/06/2014 16:44

Hello everyone.

sorry - I've been absorbing myself in reading for the last couple of days... phew - glad I didn't come off as a complete agoraphobic!

I'm about on the edge of barton estate so I'm not so far from moreton hall. I'll PM everyone about meeting up.
